ahhh rust?!?
well maybe its not that serious buuttt...
there is a rock chip on my hood.. well actually there is a few.. but one really concerns me. itr is obviosly all the way down to the metal. But the metal looks like it is rusting! of course the chip is only really small, but anyone who has ever had a rusty car knows, rust is like cancer, it just spreads.
I have touch up paint from acura, which i am going to use to fill in the chip, but do you guys think there is anything else I should do to that little spot of rust before putting the touch up paint on it??
It is probably only like 1/10th of an inch. the rust spot is small.. and i think even if i tried to do anything to it i would just mess up the paint around it even more.

Here's what I did when I had rust around the sunroof seal of an old Accord I used to drive: I sanded off the rust till I reached unrusted metal, then I applied a couple coats of rustoleum primer (you can buy it at Home Depot or Lowe's). After the rustoleum, I applied a couple coats of touch up paint, and voila! No more rust spreading. Just make sure you get rid of the rust, seal it, then you should be fine.

yeah but the prob is that the spot is so small. If i tried to sand it down i doubt there would be any way to do it without touching the paint around the spot. sucks..

I wouldn't recomend trying to "sand" it down yourself. It seems like that would only do more damage. If it really bothers you take it to a paint place or a body shop and see what they say.

well im planning to keep the car for a while.. i just wanna make sure that shit doesnt spread...
i also decided that i am not driving behind trucks anymore...
im a big fan of the truck routes, but I refuse to stay any closer than 150 ft behind the trucks because it KILLS me to hear the rocks hitting my hood.
Im gonna check it out and see what can be done about it, maybe i will post some pics of the spots so u guys can see how small they actually are.
I havent had time to try the sand paper or the rustoleum shit...
i have the rustoleum already from some other project, and i got the touch up paint... so im still considering my options..
body shops scare my car, so i try to stay away from them.

if there's rust down in there, gotta get it out before painting. understand about not wanting to f' up the surrounding paint, tho. I've got a couple dings in the hood that I've been watching for the same reason.
years ago I used a liquid which supposedly converts the rust to a different oxidation state, rendering it stable to paint over. turns it black and hard. The car I used it on wasn't worth painting over, I just didn't want the rust geting worse. even without painting over it the rust didn't spread even after a couple NY salty winter.
if they still make it you could try putting it in with a toothpick and later painting over it.
