Aftermarket Radiator...

My radiator is going to need to be replaced soon and i'd rather go aftermarket if possible (obviously). i think i saw allmotor was going to test out a spoon/mugen, but i don't think it ever amounted to anything. the TL guys are having custom ones made, but i'm not sure if those will fit the CL. anyone have any input?

I believe Spoon sells a radiator, but I'm not sure it will fit on our cars...

they both do, and their both pretty expensive. i was going to call around to some local places to see if i can use a universal aluminum radiator and just add the pipes in the right direction for me.

Why wouldn't you get a stock one? The CLS doesn't have any cooling problems. Just looks?

2003 TL-S Radiator: 19010-PGE-A51

2003 CL-S Radiator: 19010-PGE-A51 or 19010-PJE-A51

Sounds like if the TL guys are having them made you should jump on it.

the stock one is more than adequate, save your bucks for the tranny upgrade. I've had no issues with overheating,,,as the saying goes, why re-invent the wheel. as for weight savings it's marginal at best and doesn't justify the expense. hows the build coming?

CleanCL - Since you're an auto, if you don't have a tranny cooler, you should definitely go that route to give yourself some additional cooling capacity. You could even bypass the stock tranny cooler and have the external tranny cooler do the work to reduce the amount of heat introduced into the stock cooling system. Go with at least a 24K GVW cooler.

I'm not fully convinced that the stock radiator has sufficient capacity for FI. I think one of the reason why the Mugen Mods are successful in adding HP is by lowering the water temp in the radiator so it has sufficient heat capacity to keep the motor at a temp to not pull timing. In other words, my theory is that the Mugen cooling mods give the motor a head start on pulling heat off the motor. With a properly sized radiator, it should be able to keep up with FI on it's own. If I were to guess, if you ran several back to back runs, you would see the water temp rise. I don't have a scan tool to test this but it would be interesting to find out.

I've always been of the mind to build in extra capacity into the radiator so as it loses it's efficiency, you've still got a margin of safety. Radiators will always lose a bit of capacity over time through internal and external debris.

If you need a KOYO radiator let me know. I can usually get them overnighted at a decent price.

On a side note, if I had seen this trhead 2 months ago I would recommended Griffin to you (http://griffinrad.com/). Apparently they do a lot of custom radiators. All you would have had to do was give me some specs and I could have had an aluminum radiator made up for you.

exc. i am interested too. i called griffin today, as well as ron davis. They both qouted me 5-700. This would include an internal ATF cooler like the OEM one...both companies make radiators that look outstanding. I am planning on writing sponsorship proposals to both, but not too sure if that will pan out the wya i want it to.

cleancl, im sure we could get a better price if we both got one. im not sure how many other folks would be interested in getting one done as well...

hmm, 5 people @ $500 each would be sweet. A little optimistic I know, but that would be the price point at which I would be most interested. Anyways, Fluidyne does not do custom build to order deals, at least not for normal street cars. The setup in the 3G forum is a little costly at 700$+, and since we have diff radiators, Im not sure how well it would workout. I think we will have a tough time rounding up 5 people for this though. Glad to see there is at least 1 more though

I am interested. I have been looking at having a universal aluminum radiator with a built-in oil cooler fitted. I'm getting boosted and I think the extra cooling will help keep the temp lower

Um I don't know if you a have a manual or not CLeanCL but this is what I read here
http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/koyo/

"All Koyo Radiators are made for manual transmission's only. If you have an automatic, with oil cooler, this will NOT work."

Also I would highly recommend a tranny cooler if you don't have one. I just installed mine last night and am glad I did.
