Afer Market H.I.D. Installation

I was just curious, has anyone ever tried to put an H.I.D. conversion kit into the stock road lamps? Just wondering if it would be possible.

I have never actually seen or felt how hot my HID's are but it's a good idea though, and if you have the money go for it. Let me know how it works out for ya. I would love to have better looking and "functional" lights down there. What is the power rating of that oem bulb 5w? well whatever, I put in a larger bulb that my friend down at one of the shops here said would work and melted the damn light housing. Thank god I had a second set.

Halogen bulbs have a filament that heats up very hot to illuminate. Xenon metal halides are an arc lamp. They work kind of like a flourescent bulb. They have a ballast (or invertor) to kick start them. But once lighted, it doesn't take as much power (and heat output) to illuminate the gas.

That's you're science lesson for the day. Class dismissed.

YES. hids are cooler relative to your standard halogen low beam. they are NOT cooler than your 5W wedge bulbs.

what keeps the headlight housing from melting? The inside of that houseing is made out of plastic. I have never pulled it out to look at it so I am not sure. When I get my HID kit I think I might try to install it in my stock road lamps and see what happens.
