AEM or Comptech Intake

Just like the title says, AEM with a bypass valve or a Comptech Intake? The price is pretty much going to be around $280 either way.

I have AEM. If I did it over again, I would go with Comptech.

If you are gonna get the bypass...the AEM is actually less powerful than some short rams...go with the Icebox or an AEM with no bypass.

So Comptech is ahead... I was leaning towards AEM, my only fear is hydrolock, and around the Philly area puddles build up fairly quickly. That's why I was looking at the bypass.

Icebox>*

While the others sounds nice, the hissing and farting noises they make are annoying. Plus the Icebox is 1000x harder to hydrolock since the filter sits up higher.

Hey is it true that the comptech icebox will not void the 60k mile warrenty (like if something happens to the engine)?!?

This is what the guy from acura of escondido parts said

The only way to void your warranty with this component is to install it
incorrectly and subsequently have an engine problem stem from the
installation.

Thanks,
Scott

He is correct. Unless the problem was caused by installation, it will not void your warrenty.

Look up the Magnuson-Moss Act. It pretty much says the dealer has to prove that the mod caused the part in question to fail if they are to void the warrenty.

So is there a sound difference between comptech and stock? Like big diff? How do the sound of comptech compare to aem cai?

The icebox is MAYBE 10% louder than stock on a car with stock H/E. It looks nicer and does give some more low end power though, so I'd say its worth it, but only if you plan on headers in the future.

The AEM and Injen will give you the mean growl at high rpm's.

I've had an AEM CAI on my old Accord and now an Injen CAI on my CLS. I love them, so my vote goes for AEM/Injen CAI's. Never had the Icebox so I can't compare.

Let me tell you what I've been told... Unless you submerge the front end of your car in water, none of them will just simply hydrolock.

Did some more reading on the CAI, this seems to be what everyone else is saying... so if I do AEM probably won't do a bypass.

I also heard the AEM sounds better. Not sure how the Injen sounds. But everyone seems to say comptech, maybe just be bias opinions obviously since comptech makes the most upgrades for our cars.

Your probably right....I love my AEM, sounds bad ass, I get compliments on it ALL the time. No way would i trade it for the icebox. Plus i prefer the look of it over the stock look of the icebox, but thats just me.

PS. The injen is the same as the AEM except there isnt one for the 6spd. The power gains are relatively equal among the CAI choices.

AEM looks great, and sounds nice during WOT but I regret not getting the icebox from the door. Once those rubber mounts that hold the CAI in place wear and fall off, makes the the engine sound like there are a bunch of midgets playing with tin cans under the hood.

I say Comptech, hands down. I had the AEM. I hated the sound. I don't need to hear how loud is in WOT. And the bracket that holds the AEM down broke on mine. The rattle was enough to make me almost re-install the stock intake.

This is becoming a little one-sided. I may have to go with the majority here but I'll wait till the poll closes.

i say go with what's on sale

each has its advantage and disadvantage. CAI people will swear by what's in their car (like me), Icebox folks will recommend what they have (not bad either)

Icebox here, plus it's CARB legal. Don't know if that matters, but a plus IMO.

Update: I just ordered the Icebox from Excelerate . A little more than a few weeks, but now I can wait to get it in and installed.

Question for those that installed the CAI themselves, is there any known issues I should be aware of if I choose to install it myself? o2 sensor fits perfectly? etc...

I have the Icebox, because it has better gains. But sometimes I want it to growl like the AEM or Ingen...

but in the end I know I made the right decision... you want gains right?! who cares about the sound difference...
