AEM CAI: Classy or Ricey?

Does the Type-S motor sound classy with an AEM CAI or does it make the motor sound like a civic with a CAI. I'm thinking of picking one up and was just wondering if it actually enhances the deep throated noise of the stock type S motor or transforms it into something else completely? Thanks.

Classy with a CAI. I have an Icebox, so the sound isn't as much an issue, but the CAI is a great mod start. Or just pull your resonator for a cheap, sound improvement.

No one outside the car can hear a difference unless you're WOT (VTEC ROARS ) or you're shutting the car off. There is a slight hiss sound created by it sucking air at idle but you have to listen for it. It's definitely not ricey.

Every person who has been in my car when I hit 5k RPMs+ has complimented the sound.

Most people absolutely LOVE it, as do I. Not one negative response yet. Sounds mean, but not over the top Civic-y.

Get it, you won't regret it.

I would suggest getting the AEM CAI. AEM's customer service is top notch. My bracket snapped and they are sending me a new one in the mail free of charge.

CAI or short ram intake are a sure bet. Better prerformance and more looks.

You can use it to scare little kids/pets/old ladies or you can keep the revs down and nobody will notice anything...

Sounds mean, not classly. I prefer the equal performance of the icebox with a quieter roar at VTEC. I think the CAI sounds awesome but its a big difference from stock!

I think the sound from the AEM isn't loud enough at VTEC! I had a short-ram in my V6 accord.. and it was pretty quiet until you went WOT. Then it was awesome! Throaty.. and gave a noticeable power increase too.

At idle you can't really tell.. you hear a slight hiss when you shut the engine off. Other than that it's pretty not-noticeable until you get on it.. Again, just not loud enough for my taste. And I'm not a ricer by any stretch..

I used to have a Weapon-R short ram intake on my CLS. That thing was damn loud after 4800rpm. Much louder than the AEM CAI.

I'd definitely recommend a CAI though on the CL because short rams on the CL produce a strange induction resonance sound. It sounds like humming or a UFO. The sound at WOT was intoxicating though. I miss it so...

Umm I have been debating on getting a CAI as well...good to know that it does not make a lot of noise on the outside of the car...

do NOT go with aem... go with INJEN. i got an aem cai for my '03 TL-S and the fitment was crap. i had to literally cut off about 3 inches from the bottom in order to install the bumper. i was not the only one with this problem either.

another member had it as well and he contacted aem about it and they basically told him to fuck off. his name is Pure Adrenaline... ask him about it.

if youy want loud, get an injen, that thing rumbles down low and screams up high. I have compared side by side in my car the injen vs aem and the injen kills the aem every time.
