Advice needed: Scratched Rim

My Silver CL-S is three weeks old and I misjudged a illegal u-turn and nailed my rear passenger rim on a concrete curb. It has some deep scratches in it now and I was pretty upset. Anyways, does anyone have one rim they are willing to sell? If not, do you know how much a dealer might charge me for a new one?

Anyways, thank you for any help!

Forget about replacing this rim. I've already posted one topic regarding this. The way the rims are designed you are going to scratch them all the time. So the options that you have are either to drive with one scratched, or do what would help you in a long run replace all of them with rims that are not sticking out on the sides. Well thats my opinion.

Just for the record I chose an easy way out - driving with scrached rims.

How is it that I have had my car for 6 months and no scratches? No offense but scratching your rims is simply of matter of being careful and paying attention to your driving. I am in NO WAY a perfect or near perfect driver but I cautiously maneuver the fast food lanes or the curb knowing that i could scrape.

Yes, I know it is not easy to scratch the rims. I was at an all day gaming LAN party at Cal Expo in Sacramento and it was like 1:00 am in the morning on Sunday. I had been there since 9:00 am Saturday and the night before I had gotten into a huge fight with my fiance and didn't get to bed until 2:00 am. I was pissed off because I had to carry my 90 pound monitor a quarter of a mile to the parking lot so I decided to drive a bit closer. This is when I clipped the curb which I have never done before.

It was an accident and accidents happen. I didn't post this to be criticized, I posted to ask advice on how much a new rim might cost. If I don't get any help, I will call the dealer.

Thank you,

Jason

The Poobah represents about 40% of this forum in that he does not have scratched rims. Most of us do and are damn proud of them!

It sucks, get over it, start saving for totally new rims and enjoy the car. Consider it "broken in".

Don't feel too bad. I was so careless with my last car that both passenger side rims were gnarled. If you would have seen them, you would think I was blind from one eye and had terrible depth perception or that I ate paint chips as a kid. With my new car, I make sure I park at least 6" from the curb and I go real slow making U-turns.

Yeah save for the 18" rims with a polished lip. Cost of sotck CLS rim from www.800wheels.com was ($220+shp). I paid for my new 18" wheels $215 shipped no tax.

So save for a better rims/wheels....

Every other CLS has a scratched rim

Since no one else seems to really be answering your question . . Try calling Wheel Techniques: 408-866-5859 in Campbell, CA. They can fix the rim for anywhere between 50 and 150 - depending on the severity and placement. They may know of a closer shop to you. Alternatively - call a rim shop in your area, and they should be able to direct you. The dealership Service Dept could not make a single recommendation 0- other than to buy a new rim - go figure... I just scratched one rim myself and I refuse to deal with it long term. I have now decided I will always back into spots - with our cool little downward moving passenger side mirror, I can see much better where the limits are. The car stalls at my apartment complex are notoriuosly tight so I try to hug one side and keep door dings at bay. Well, the rim suffered when i pulled forward into one last week. It does suck, and it can be a terrible eye sore. I am not into heavily modifying newer vehicles, so I plan on keeping the stock rims if possible.

DLP, thanks for the advice... I will check on that. I can't imagine paying more than $100 bucks for a new one but maybe I can get my dealship to hook me up.

I’m a member of the “NO SCRATCHED RIMS CLUB” myself.
TEN months & 9,000 scratch free miles.

Now that I’m bragging about it, I’ll probably scratch TWO of them the next time I stop at the MAC machine for money.

Well, I called my local dealer in sacramento and thankfully they are a pretty large dealership. I asked them how much for a new one and they said $299. Then he told me that they have a bunch of them that they took off of new cars to put aftermarket rims on them and he would sell one to me for $150. Installation and balancing would be $20. I told him I would pay $130 so the total is $150 and he asked his manager and said "deal".

So it looks like I learned a $150 lesson and tomorrow I get my new rim at 1:00

PS... My fiance said I may as well spend the $150 and get 4 new aftermarket rims!!! Uh, duh! hehe
