Acura or Pioneer Navigation Unit?

I just bought an 03 CL-S and I am going to Nav it up. I'm trying to decide between an acura unit or a pioneer Z1. I like the bose system in the acura, but I also like Pioneers Nav products.

Anyone have any suggestions?

it'd be a lot easier to go with the Pioneer. The Acura Nav conversion, I hear/read, is a headache waiting to happen.

I am fully prepared to do the conversion. If I went with the Acura unit it would have all the wiring harnesses, which makes the job A LOT easier.

I've been debating on this as well, but i'm kinda leaning towards factory dash piece w/ aftermarket navi (if i even bother w/ navi). I think that'd look the best and probably work out the best and would be most cost efficient (provided you can get the used dash piece, hazard switch, etc).

........theres a ton of COMLPETE nav units on ebay most of the time, it makes me want to do it. The generally run in/around $1000. Right now theres all the components needed to complete the set up in various auctions. Search for "Acura navigation"

If you are willing ot go after market, and have some cash to spend there would be no contest to Alpine.

Just bought a pioneer z1, I debated over the stock navi and aftermarket for awhile. I got a chance to check out the z1 in a friends car and fell in love with it. Hoping to get it installed soon, just ordered the streeteffectz dash...I'll post pics as soon as I get it installed...I do know the bluetooth is not all that, the mic sucks and there seems to be an echo..but its slightly fixed by turning down the speakers..You forgot nav traffic...that is the shit...you get the speed of traffic and alternate routes...but you have to get xm I personally wanted sirius

I opted for Kenwood due to not only the 5.1 processor but the new "module" navi system that they have been working on. It is sopposed to be the most advanced aftermarket navi system ever created, plus its very small and can mount under your seat. It works off of a card, not a cd.

Alpine's IVA-W200 is touch screen. And the screen size is 6.5" widescreen.

Unfortunately the OEM unit is small. The damn 3rd gen TL's pratically have a TV sitting on their dash. (sigh) Couldn't they have just hooked us 03 guys up with some cool frills like that?

How is the pulse touch feature on the Alpine? Can you perform Nav functions while driving?

I really like the way the Bose system sounds. How does this compare (keep in mind I do not plan on adding any speakers / amps)?

The NVE-782A is a nice unit. It has lots of features including touch screen compatability. I believe it is smaller than the 852.

Maybe I don't know what's meant by "touch screen", but I can enter info and whatnot by touching the letters and numbers on the screen

This one is just a head unit right? I did not see any nav functions mentioned.

Yeah, the W200 is only the head unit. DVD/CD/Bluetooth & HD Radio capable/Etc. You have to add Navi. Worth it to some, not to others.

I can use my nav while driving. I get a warning, but it still allows me to do what I need.

Alpine Navi sucks though, compared to Pioneer. As well, no voice recognition, no HDD.
Only 6.5".

Pioneer is simply the best in Navigation functions, nothing else like it. Alpine is way less detailed.

Alpine navigation is based on the same 3rd party navigation as kenwood and eclipse. Pioneer has the best navigation.
I used that Blackbird when I went down to seattle and it found 0 of the 6 addresses i was looking for, and very inaccurate.
Pioneer Navigation is the only unit that has a gyro in it, so when there is no reception of gps, it can triangulate your co-ordinate, its the only system that is NOT required to hook up Vehicle Speed Sense. So if your vehicle didn't have an analog vehicle speed sense, you'd have to spend and extra $200 to buy a speed sense generator and plus labor to mount it on one of your wheels.

I agree the Blackbird sucks, Alpine released it too soon without working out all the kinks. As for not finding addresses that is kind of odd.

As for no GPS reception, how often does that actually happen because I have never lost reception.

What car does not have a speed sense wire because I have never run into one?

So are all the acura ones touch screen? Is there any difference between the Hard Disk based Navi and the DVD-ROM based one?

Is one better than the other?

I have heard the Blackbird isn't so nice, BUT the in car Alpine Navi systems have great reviews. I haven't heard anything negative about those systems.

Maybe you should read the above file. It might give you some info that you have never read. You are obviously looking at an old alpine nav unit. I would not say alpine sucks, they are used as the base navigation in many cars. I even believe the acura navigation is based off of alpine, not to sure though. You also say alpine only uses a 6.5" screen, which is wrong. I have a 7" monitor in my car. Don't get me wrong you are entitled to you own opinion, but you should have all of the facts before make some statements.
