Acura mechanic "running his own deal?"
I just received my Comptech springs and sway bars yesterday. I have called around previously for intsallation prices, and my dealer can do it for $450. (which is high). Today I called my dealer back again and want to confirm the installation price. I was told "Sway bar $75 a piece, and $112 per spring" I was like, what the???!, thats $598 total!. I called back again and spoke with another guy, and he told me the same numbers.. I told him I was quoted $450 before. He replied the mechanic I talked to may be running his own deal over there, and told me to talk to him... whats this "running his own deal"?? Man I wish I can go to Park Avenue Acura...they can do the whole thing for $295! (http://www.parkaveacura.com/comptech_pricing.htm).. too bad I am in Georgia.

Look for a local speed shop. They should do springs and sways for less than $450.

i was in my dealer today, talked with the head service dude, they haven't done any work on a Type S, they aren't sure who can even do it ... JENS where the heck are you??? he said $50 a spring, and he'll do the shocks for free since they're already in there ...

yea, i checked around local shops, and they can do it at a tremandously lower price... but i always thought it's a good idea to bring it back to the "dealership" for any post-installation problems

According to Comptech's website, the required installation hour for springs is 2-3 hours, and 3-4 for sway bars...so seems to me sway bars should be harder? how come most of the shops i called charge me more for the springs installations? JENS?
oh and also is it a good idea to have a "regular" service shop to install them? (non-acura/honda specialist)

Well I don't know what to tell you here.We looked at Comptech's recommended installation time for all of their parts and used that as a guide when we established our price list.A shop owner ofcourse can charge anything he or she wants and can get away with.Unfortuanately that is the way it is.As far as a non Acura dealer working on your car, your best bet is to ask around at car clubs etc and see what the people have to say about the place.Jens
