I don't think you are overreacting. You are paying for the whole thing and if you have conclusive information (like the cases in the forum) that there could be problems with the actuator, then it's OK to check first.

Actuator Phobia

Well you all have given me a bad case of Actuator Phobia.

Before I take possession of my new CL-S on Thursday I am going to have the service manager prove to me the damn thing is working.

Anyone get a bad one right out of the dealership?

Am I overreacting if I refuse to take possession of the car until they prove the actuator is working?

Peace, LTK

I think it's a growing issue, but maybe not as big as we paint it to be. I'd say maybe less that 2% of all Type S's sold have been hit by the bug. It's something I would check when I did my delivery inspection though, now that we've got you paranoid.

Davo,

I dunno about that 2%.
Some of the S people might not even realize it if there just city drivers.
Not everyone drives with a lead foot to get up there at the Vtec rpm range (power band).

Ugh, don't say that. What a waste of a car if they don't get it in the upper RPM band. They should have got a Tercel or something else.

I forgot that the both CL models share production # sequences, so I'd venture to up my guesstimation to around 30%.

I don't think you're being unreasonable at all. It only takes a second for them to check it out and its better to be safe than sorry. I don't think the problem is that widespread either. Things tend to get blown out of proportion on the 'net.

This actuator problem has alot of people
jacked up. I checked mine out and works fine.
As a staunch advocater of G-Tech,buy one and check your 0-60 and 1/4m.times and you can keep track of your performance and improvements done to car! Buy a G-Tech!

Thanks to all who replied. It seems that a number of dealers are trying to ignore the problem. I hope mine is not one of them.

Don't you know my luck, had the 98CL for over three years without a mark. Four days before I go to turn it in I park next to a SUV. Yes your right I came out of the store and my driver's side was creased right at the level of a SUV bumper. I HATE SUV's!!!!

Peace, LTK
