About to do a coolant flush - any other related maintenance?

I'm finally getting around to performing a coolant flush on my '01 CL-S (130k miles) since my last one was about 60k miles ago.

I searched and found the general procedure, so my main question is "related" maintenance to do when performing a coolant flush.
  • Replace thermostat?
  • Replace any hoses known to fail, etc for this car?
  • Replace any related sensors?

Reason I ask is that I also own a Ford Focus and the thermostat housing is a very weak (plastic) link on the car and should be replaced every 30-40k miles.

Oh and can someone confirm how much coolant to use for the flush? I just read our capacity is 1.48 gallons, is that the case?

Thanks!

I believe it is about 1.5gallons. You might as well replace the t-stat and the rad cap. If the hoses are hard, replace them. You shouldnt need to replace sensors.

Everytime i do a coolant flush, i use a prestone coolant flush. Basically drain it. Put in coolant flush. Run for a few days or 500 miles. But i dont think its a good idea midsummer if the temps are over 100 daily like here in phx. Then drain it and flush it with hose water. Then it wouldnt be a bad idea to replace hoses, thermostat and rad cap if its bad. I usually make my own prestone mixture from concentrate and distilled water 50/50. If this is new to you, just remember to be cautious when removing anything like hoses and caps from anything under thermal pressure. and let the engine cycle to standard temp and refill radiator a few times to ensure you refill the coolant in the block and burp air.

you use Preston anti freeze? Honda/Acura Type 2 pre-mixed is what should be used. The Blue stuff, not green, or yellow.

Yea, prestone works fine for me. I've pretty much gone "green" with my antifreeze. It's just easier and works perfectly fine, but I made sure to flush out all the old stuff before using it in my car permanently.

I plan on using Peak 50/50 - it's yellow. I'm not sure why I would *have* to use the Honda product?

Prestone is fine in this car. The other ones last longer supposedly. The newer cars you have to watch as they take other coolant that's orange.
