I left Acura in 2016 to join the Nissan Maximites, I wanted brand new 300hp car and sadly my 2003 CL - S felt better than that Maxima, Then I went back with that crowd that really loves their cars - its Bimmers and bump anything else, lol. Got my dream car (2021 M550) and love the hell out of that car. Now that I'm looking for a daily driver and I'm looking at all the usual suspects (Audi, MB, Honda, Lexus, Acura). I decided that I'm going to bring my old CL back to life. I gave it to my moms in 2016, she drove it for a couple of years until she couldn't do the lower type cars anymore. Some family members drove It from time to time, but of the most part it's been sitting in her driveway collecting dust for the last 3 years. It is in the saddest of states you would want to see your old car. I would go home and look at it like " I'm so sorry I did this to you, please forgive me, I didn't know better, I thought they would cherish you". My moms tried but she lil too old to be OCD with keeping up a car and my pops just drives them, pretty much. So this thread will be a revival of my former love and me coming back home to the brand I wish I never had to leave for more HP (Hello Acura, bigger interior than a TLX and more horses, will bring us all back).
I will load up some pics of how she looks currently once I get her back at my house and start documenting this new journey. It looks nothing like that profile pic, she's been deprived. It will be a challenge but it says something about a car when you can pretty much get anything within reason, but that Type S CL is a serious love affair that I don't have with no other car brands besides BMW. Driving it felt so good and happy to be back around fellow smart car buyers like yourselves. Acura people are different from other brands buyers, IMO I feel like we are little more smarter when it comes to seeing the value in cars. That Bimmer was not a value decision, it was purely lust that I was willing to live with long term, LMAO. 500+hp is a wonderful thing , but not as a daily driver for sure.
Some of the best or first services you should consider performing, once in immediate possession, is to change the ATF filter, pull & clean all (#6 & #7) linear solenoids & perform a 3X3 with honda ATF, especially if the car has sat for long periods due to intermittent / sporadic use.

Went and picked her up this weekend. Couldn’t wait to get home and wash her, so I stop at a car wash on the way home. Gave her a nice bath today , next step is that interior, that will be some work. Still trying to figure out what kind of suspension I want and what kind of exhaust I would like. I don’t want the drone effect but I want the a really nice exhaust that doesn’t sound ricey . Also throwing away the garbage that was still there.

Can you open the air filter box and make another audio recording? Sounds like something 'bumping' in there...
it wasn’t in the air filter box , it was either the spark plugs or the injectors or at least that’s what I’m thinking. So I pulled the plugs today and this is what I see on the plugs. The ones coated in oil are coming from the far left banks.
Can anyone guesstimate what may be the issue with the far left plugs coated in oil
Blowby caused by worn rings and/or excessive piston to wall clearance.
Time for a rebuild or replacement.
You think that could be the case and not old valve cover gaskets?
There is no smoke coming out the exhaust , no loss of power, engine runs regular outside of the small misfire and an exhaust leak somewhere .
when I take her in, I’ll see what they say, but she still hella strong

So it seems I have a leak in the flex pipe. The mechanic said we can cut the old one off and replace it. I'm thinking if we do that, why not just replace the J-pipe? upon many nights of searching, finding a J pipe for this car is unbelievable. My question - Is cutting the flex pipe and welding a new one on pretty much standard at this point and will performance be affected? Will a CL base model J-pipe work on a Type s engine? Can muffler shops make custom J-pipes? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Shops up north do this a lot. Why buy a whole J pipe when they can just replace the flex section.
That's why I'm asking. I guess I'm thinking more like when I did my Legend, I replaced, headers, cams exhaust manifolds, basically the whole exhaust. I haven't replaced any exhaust items on this car before. so I was unsure if this is something that is done regularly.
I know these cars are getting older, and parts are getting harder to find. I just had to install RSX shift cables on a friends Type S. They worked, but it took more effort than a direct swap.
She back on the road again, after some work and more work to come I finally get to drive her daily. I’ll list some of the work in another post but just to be back behind the wheel is a great feeling.
Funny thing is forget the name I gave her, so I gotta choose a new name, wifey said “just get her painted soon” lol. I’m continue to on all the mechanical stuff and then paint, but tint is a must
