Talking about 60 Min from picking up my CLS after getting the P2R intake setup installed!

I,'m just dropped off my cls a little while ago to have my p2r intake, TB spacer, TB thermal gaskets, IM thermal gasket , and progress rear sway installed. im sitting here down the street in boarders reading some mag's and trying to wait patiently.

I was going to do the install myself the other day. im confident I could have succeeded, it was the wait if factor that kept me from doing it.

what if something happens that I can't fix. its my daily driver so I need it. so im leaving in the capable hands of a friend who happens to be a mechanic, that I trust.

back to my mag, and ill be picking her up soon

Sorry CL-Slick, won't have any info till tomorrow afternoon. Had some issues. we didn't tighten down the IM enough. Slight Vacuum seal leak. So the shop was closing down about 5 min after we started up for the first time. Had some issues, figured it out it was the seal. So we have to wait till tomorrow to finish it up. I work in the morning, so I'm picking it up about 5 tomorrow. He's taken the IM back off, checking the surface, and tightening the IM back down.

The twin is hurting bro. When we put the IM Thermal spacer on, for some reason or other the the lower IM cracked. It wasn't that it was on tight enough and it was leaking. The piece actually cracked.

Anyone have any ideas why this would happen. Everything was cleaned before the IM went back on. The IM was torqued to factory spec's, at 16lbs. Started from the inner most nuts and worked our way out in a diagonal pattern.

And yes I'll be be heading up to the track this year. Just give me heads up when you go.

WTL-S I'm just north of Boston; Medford, Malden, Saugus area. Where are you at?

When you say lower intake manifold, do you mean the intake runners below the plenum? They are two sets of pipes three on each side, on top of the cylinder head. Or do you mean the plenum itself, the top most part of the engine that the throttle body bolts to? What kind of crack hairline fracture, or big hole? Can you post pics? Can someone post a pic of what i'm talking about? There's no way that should have cracked. Something went wrong during the install...
Could have been bumped or hit when it was off the car. Either way that sucks bro, I was waiting to see how well the car performs now.

So wait a minute what actually cracked? Was it the piece being added or was it the a part of the engine as it came from the factory?

Yea it sucks a lot, but I'm getting it taking care of. I'm not worried about it. I'm getting a new IM. I'm thinking its the Intake runners. I might be wrong. Its the part that sits right on top of the new thermal gasket. Not the Plenums, at least Im almost positive its not.

Its a small crack, so hairline, that ran out to the edge. So it wasn't that big, but big enough to screw with it idling.

I talk to sean over at P2R, he thought it might just have been old. I mean there is 108k on the car. The actual act of taking it off just push it over. So it was somthing that was probably in the works.

the guy that works on my car is good, so I can't see him messing up. If he did, no big deal. shit happens.

I should have my car back tomorrow, Thursday at the latest. The IM Thermal won't be on right away. Stock gasket is going to go back in for the time being. but the TB spacer and gaskets, along with the intake are in and staying in.

You see, this is the "WHAT IF FACTOR" that I was talking about. What if it was I not my friend working on it, and this had happened. I wouldn't have had a clue and I would have been freaking out.

It's all bad Karma stemming from the title of the thread, that "60 Minutes" thing pissed off the Cosmos (and the Cosmos was already upset with you for making your car look like mine ).

Oh yeah, I think they were making fun of your spelling, you posted "wait if factor."

Nightpoison- your talking about the plenum. The intake runners are below the new gasket and the plenum is on top. Give me a minute I'm gonna post a link to a thread that has all these pictured for reference. Anyway I was going to ask you how many miles the car had but that shouldn't really matter. I still think he got a little rough with it to get it off, I had to be with mine guess I got lucky?

Wow that stinks. I did mine in under two hours with no hassles. I don't buy that the IM was old. Mine is an 01 with (when I did it) 152k.

Hope you get it fixed soon

No, dont have it back just yet. Parts were being shipped in from Cali. They are due to land this morning. So I should have it back this afternoon some time.

It doesn't look like the weather is going to work with us. Plus I wasn't able to find someone to cover my shift at work, so in either case I won't be heading up to the track tonight.

Now I don't feel so bad, the sun is fighting through up here in NH, but my Prelude was blocking the CL in this AM and I didn't feel like doing the swap. I've got the wrong car for the track.

Ok, so I got my ride back today.

First off, The car just screams this deep growl once I hit V-Tec. It idles just about the same as before. At least I can't tell a difference. But once V-Tec kicks in, there is a big difference in sound.

It pulls a little stronger when I'm in higher gears. A little more passing power on the highways. But dropping down to 3rd it gives you a little more pressure against the back of your seat. It feels like the car is breathing a little bit more and really likes it.

I specially like the Progress Rear Sway bar. Feels real good going around the turns, more so when I'm taking the on/off ramps for the highway. Cuts down on the body roll in the back keeping those tires glued down some more. Feels secure.

As for the issues I was having. I have the paper work, and this is what was said.

1) Replaced both Rear Wheel bearings, and Rear Hub Bearing Assemblies.
2) Front Bank Lower Intake Manifold Cracked
3) Replaced failing IAC Valve

Ok thats what was written down on my service receipt. Of course there was a lot more information, but thats more or less what was fixed and or replaced.

Forgot to mention

When you first put pressure on the gas, you can hear the air rushing into the intake. Its this low rushing sound. You wouldn't be able to hear it if you had the radio on, but with the windows up or down and radio off, you can hear it.

I opted for the stiffer of the two settings. I figured why not. I'm not at the track every day, but I'm fairly aggressive with corners, and on/off ramps.

Yeah the sound will be just like a AEM or Injen CAI. Just louder in vtec.
I don't like noise. I tried the AEM. It was too loud for my tastes. I got the quiet Icebox.

Yea for those that want a quit ride I wouldn't recommend it. But if you like the deep sound, its worth getting.

I don't mind the noise of my P2R but I don't like the sucking sound the car makes when I shut it off.

Shit I actually forgot about that. I was going ask if anyone else was hearing the same sound. Kind of freaked me out the first time I shut the car down. Kind of annoying. But I can live with it.

Also, when you installed the TB Spacer and Intake, what did you do with the PCV line? Did you use an extension, get a longer line, or use a PCV filter?

I put in the spacer & gaskets first & then the intake later. The hose reached before the intake and I added a longer hose after.

I suspect the resonator acts like a Ptrap in a toilet to keep the air from running back into the motor after the final turn of the crank and that's what makes the noise.

I hate the five minute rule. Between the glacial speed the site moves at and that it's impossible to edit posts

Yea I didn't have longer hoses, so we ended up using a PCV filter. Any one think of any complications with that, or should it be fine?

I am sure that probably every intake does that, my Comptech does it also. It is not a big deal at all.
