'96-'98 Mustang GT kill?

Kid was all wanting to race, revved at me at a light. We weren't the first cars though, but at the next light he gets in the center (of 3) lane and is first in line so i get right behind him. At the light he goes and starts to get on it so after I'm rolling I get on it too, walk up to him, pass him on the left, and smile as I walk by.

Dunno if it counts as a kill but it was fun either way.

My whole ride to my destination was fun today, was going 80-90mph most of the way. No cars in front of me on nice backroads with the sunroof open, windows down, and some good music playing. What a blast!

Car is so much fun to just DRIVE with the suspension the way it is, even on these stock tires.

From my experience, most chumps in the 96-98 GeeTee's deserve a good ass-kicking...most think their car is actually fast...nice work JRock

I don't care if there are any other cars around, 80-90 MPH on back roads is just not very smart

The roads are smoothly paved and while they're curvy, the bends are smooth enough that they can be taken at speed easily enough, especially with a modded suspension. I definitely slow down when appropriate, I was just able to enjoy some nice, speedy driving today is all. I don't take risks I don't feel comfortable with nor ones that would endanger others.

And actually I was really blessed on the way home (a much slower drive because of traffic in front of me) because at one point on a back road there's a huge downhill section where if you were to stop at the top of the hill and then let off the brake, by the time you are at the bottom you'd be up to at LEAST 45-50mph, so OF COURSE it's posted 25mph . Anyway for some weird reason today I was in sportshift (which I hardly ever use) in 3rd gear and I was going about 34mph about 3/4 of the way down the hill and sure enough there was a cop there gunning. I don't have a detector so I had no warning until I saw him off to the side but thankfully I was only going 34mph and since plenty of people fly down that hill, he didn't bother.

It's so weird, in the 4-5 years I've driven on this specific road, I've NEVER seen a cop on the hill. But there was one today. And most of the time I go down the hill at least 45mph like everyone else but today I didn't. Whew.

Stupid speed limits in this speed trap area of Maryland.

They are probably posted as such because people do 90 on back roads.

wait a minute...

aren't you the guy that posted a recent street racing experience between your s4 and an integra 4dr with three 16 year olds in it?

I don't care if you don't do it much, street racing is just not very smart.

You are right, I did, on a road with a speed limit of 50 MPH and I slowed at 45 and just cruised to the speed limit. Like I said, street racing happens, but keep it at a safe speed.

I wasn't even racing anyone on those backroads.

No, they're ridiculously low because it's speed-trap country where the roads dictate you go at LEAST 50mph but the posted limits are 35-45mph so they can get a lot of revenue from tickets.

That and the few farmers that are left are used to driving their tractors all day so they aren't used to driving at speed and "doggone it if Ah can't drive that fast, them thar city slickers sure can't neither, hyuck" so they post low limits and the police spend all their time fighting that heinous villian - the Speeder instead of doing anything useful like getting drunk drivers off the road (of which there are plenty).

I have never driven anywhere near that fast on local roads. I admit I have on the highway, at around 2 am. I don't do it often. I cannot imagine doing anywhere near that on a local road. Just becuase I drive an S4 it means I must drive over a hundred?

Your right. That is why I stated that I DO NOT do that often. On long straight roads with no one on the highway in front of behind, I have done it. Not often. Now I suppose it is time for me to point the finger back at you and say "come on, you have a cl-s and you expect me to believe you don't drive that fast?" EVERYONE does something at some point that is not safe. I am not bashing the original poster of this thread for how fast he was going. Just pointing out it was quite fast for back roads and maybe that is why the police trap people there. They know it is a great spot to make some money and meet the quota. I will pretty much gaurantee with only a few exceptions that just about everyone on this site has driven at these speeds at least once or twice in their life. Doesn't happen often for most people. It does happen however. Anyone want to deny this and tell me you haven't done it EVER. Not everyday, but EVER.

Oh, and as far as the original post goes. The only reason I think that it is not safe to drive on backroads at high speeds is lots of things can jump out from blind spots. At least around me, most backroads are not that straight and surrounded by either woods or houses. I know not all places are like this so it really depends a lot on that of course. Down in the deserts around New Mexico for instance you could drive for most of the day without having to turn and NOTHING on the side of the road. I in no way am bashing the guy who started this thread. In my neck of the woods, there is just a huge difference between back roads and highways

Is this Mr. Rogers drives a CL-S?

What's with all the "driving 80-90 mph is just not smart" paranoia?

That being the case, then why buy/drive a 260-hp, high-perf suspension/handling ride?

I have driven my "toy" on interstates posted at 65-mph frequently at 135 mph. If not for the limiter (i can reach 135 in 4th gear. shifting to 5th drops the revs to 3500). One learns to work with what one has... until I reprogram the EI. I have a cohort who applied minimal upgrades (breathy intake/exhaust, re-programmed EI) and can reach 145+ mph nominally (@ sub-6000 revs).

I can't wait til my ride is mature (60k miles). Then I'll let my brother (a pro shop mechanic) have his way with it. He says that $5k will buy me 450+ nominal hp (boring/blower/cooler w/o the destructive NOS... btw NOS is like masturbation... it will never help in the "long haul"). Add to that lowered susp. with improved control arms and improved steering and the ride will run 160+ mph.

So, who out there really "rides" there ride?

Yes it is. Once again, I am picturing back roads near me. They are windy, lots of hidden drives, and lots of animals all over the place. Where he is from they may be long straight roads. I think that is an important factor.

I always wear my crash helmet when driving my 03 CLS 6M, you need one when you're spanking S4 arses...

sorry for the flame, but you reminded me of my 60 year old MOTHER!
