7440/7443 LED Bulb Experiment

Got curious and installed 7440/7443 LED bulbs in the tail lights.

I used these from ebay (one bulb type works for both specs)

Mod Tridon EP34 flasher by cutting or unsoldering PIN 7. (DO NOT mod stock flasher - just-in-case)

Old version

New version which I bought from Advanced Auto.

Results:

Vid with mod installed and LED brightness tests.

  • No solution/does not fix the "Brake Lamp" warning. Removed the bulb for now.
  • Pin 7 disables the bulb outage sensor. No fast-blink warning if a bulb is out; therefore, you may need to check bulbs from time to time.
  • Signal now blinks slower than normal...maybe too slow for some.
  • LED output bright. Compare the four LEDs with the high mount brake lite with a regular bulb. Notice how the regular bulb slowly fades , where as, the LEDs immediately turns off.
  • Hazard lights still works with mod flasher just slower blink.
  • Does not affect cruisecontrol. (read while searching - bulb outage may disable cruise).
  • Tried the resistor mod from dodgeintrepid.net. It didn't work for me. These new LEDs may perform differently.
  • Have not converted the front bulbs yet. Maybe next order with 3rd brake lite conversion.

Hopes this info helps.

good information. i think the resistor trick works with the brake lamp bulbs, but you just need a higher load resistor. i bet you used one designed for the turn signal problem. i went through many experiments and decided the results were not worth it. they look almost identical, i didnt see a point.

wow those look alot brighter! what i did on my accord to make all of them work was...(this may seem ghetto) BUT it works....i spliced into the wires for the blinkers and added a generic trailer light assembly. something like a 1156 i think. then when you put the bulb in the assembly just leave it all inside of the trunk lining in the empty space. now when you flip the blinkers the circut draws enough current to make the LED turn signals blink at the proper speed. im sure it would probably work for the brake lights as well. it seems easier to do it that way to me cause finding the right resistor/flasher can be a real pain from my understanding.

do the tails look like they have really hot spots from the LED's ? or is the light spread evenly inside the assembly with those LEDs?

Is it me, or does it look like the rear blinkers blink before the front ones? Wish there was a side by side comparison with incandesant bulbs in another CL right next to it in the vids, but they do look somewhat brighter.

re:Lux led household bulbs,autobulbs

Dear All ,

We manufacture led household bulbs, autobulbs ,project lamps .

Nowadays ,Led household bulb become very popular and widely substitute incandescent bulbs for indoor lighting because of high luminous and excellent heat sink solve

We are one of the manufacturer of these bulbs :
Led household bulbs:
MR16 1W,3W,3*1W .GU10 1W,3W,3*1W ,JDRE27 1W,3W,3*1W .E14 1W,3W,3*1W .
PAR20 3*1W .PAR30 5*1W .7*1W .PAR38 12*1W .
Low power MR16 ,GU10 With 12LEDs.with reflector ( 0.72w) .PAR30 with 60LEDs( 3.6W)

Led deocration bulbs .led wall washer ,led underground lamps .

Led autobulbs : T10 ,T15Wedge,BA9S ,Festoon 33mm ,37mm 42mm (.single chip .3chips) .red,yellow,blue,green ,cool white (6500k) .warm white (3000-3200k). .T25BA15S .
