is 6speed tranny better than automatic tranny

I am currently looking at this 03 cl type s 6speed non-navigation with 103k on it. I know that the cl and tl tranny are junkie but how is the six speed compare to the automatic? is the six speed problem free? or it the same? how reliable is it. i cant afford to buy a car and having the tranny mess up within a year or so. thank you in advance

No trans is problem free.
6,500 is a good deal but,if the car has 108k then ask about any services being done.
Because if the major 105k service is not done maybe not so great of a deal because that would be signs of a neglectful owner wanting to dump the car.
And that would also make you think of what else is neglected.
Also with you saying you would not have to worry about fixxing a auto tranny with in a year also make me think you should not buy a neglected 6 speed either.
Look the car over ,ask about paper work/services done. And test drive making sure everything is a o k
6500 asking is a little low for 100k 6speed.
usally people start high.So I could imagine how low he would go slapping ben g's in his face.
I would buy it if it was offered locally at the time I bought mine, neglected or not since I would not have a problem dumping cash into it to make it right.
You got to plan to spend money on a used car no matter the car since your not going to get a warranty.

You have a auto
You have been a member since 09 and your asking about buying a 6speed.
You should know all you need to know already.

Not necessarily true. Maybe they don't want to dump the $ into it? It's not cheap compare to selling the car & putting that $ down on something new.
If I had a stable job That's what I was going to do.

I have a 6 speed I bought knowing the transmission had been rebuilt by Acura at around 90k miles. Close to $4000 in receipts from the previous owner to back it up.

Bought it with about 102k miles on it and it drive nice. Now only 125k on the car and the 3rd gear synchro has failed as over about 10k miles ago so it will be rebuilt a 2nd time.

I realize my case is rare, but like Richard said, there is no guarantee of something being problem free.

Good luck with your decision!

If the manual drops from 5th to second on the highway its not the transmissions faults.

I think i will chamge synchros too 1st, 2nd and 3rd just to be safe. Sometimes the second gear is grinding but i cant adress it to synchro for 100%. Also i think my clutch doesnt have to much life left. And for my experience its first sign of clutch going out

Well in the defense of the cls6 you don't know who rebuilt it using what parts & why it needed it at 90K miles. I would never have touched that car.

There is TSB on the 3rd gear synchro. I know to test if it was my synchro I wouldn't grind when I double clutched and thats how I determined it was the synchro. The transmission shop(S) have confirmed that too.

Ya possibly a good call on not buying it, but I did see all the Acura receipts with the diagnosis and ever part that was changed... what can I say, wanted a blue CLS6 with navi, only about 21 produced I think and at least I got it for a price I was comfortable with and got enough back from Uncle Sam to redo it
