6spd issue(s)

wondering if this is a problem just for myself or it affects someone else:

When the car is completely COLD and as the car warms up almost to NORMAL engine temp (about 90%-95%)...during that transition, my 6spd will JERK noticeably like I didn't let the clutch out smoothly...it's not that violent of a jerk but still noticeable. It is more noticeable now then when I first purchased the vehicle.

here is the scenario: I'm driving when the engine is cold...shifting like usual. Now when the engine is about 90-95% warmed up to normal and I'm in say 5th gear, the car will JERK slightly. It only happens ONCE during the warmup phase but after that initial JERK, I will never again notice another occurence. It doesn't matter what GEAR I'm in (the higher the gear, the lesser the jerking effect). It can be duplicated..but only during the COLD ENGINE to warmup phase. AFter that, it will never happen again. It is a very strange event and I'm wondering what is the matter with the car? I tried 3 times to notice it when it was about 90-95% warmed up to normal and coast in NEUTRAL until the car is warmed up to normal and I don't get the jerk.

Only when i am in gear and the car is about 90-95% normal temp I get ONE INITIAL JERK and that's it. Anyone else have the same type of issue??

I don't know what the hell it is...I thought it was the LSD or something...but when I'm in GEAR I get the jerk...just when I'm coasting the JERK never occurs and then the engine is warmed up to normal temp. The jerk first occurred a while back when the engine was about 3000 miles...now at 6300 miles, I can definitely feel the JERK more than before.

Please help!

I haven’t noticed what you described on my car.

The only thing COLD WEATHER related is that the RPM’s are higher at idle for a few minutes as the engine warms up.
I believe this is normal and you have to take this into account when rev-matching in-between shifts.

Allow the car to warmup a few minutes .We have sold quite a few of these cars to date and we have not seen any problems thus far.Jens

thanx guys for the tips...

I will do it differently this morning. Allow the car to FULLY WARM UP TO NORMAL TEMPERATURE. Then i will drive the car to see if I get the same result. The messed up part about all of this is that it only happens ONCE and it's quick and noticeable. AFter that time, it never happens AGAIN. even after a long drive and parked for 20 minutes then restart and drive off, there isn't that sign of hiccup. It's only happening when the damn car is going from engine COLD to 90-95% WARMED UP!

Am I going crazy here? 1st was the engine block replacement @3900miles. Now it's this weird problem. I'm just scared that if i ignore it, it will get worse and worse.

How long must you have the car warmed up before you go? I just usually drive off after 2 minutes of starting the car up. I just don't rev past 3000rpm in each gear.

Perhaps I should add this detail in too:

I am IN GEAR and coasting while in gear when this 'jerk' occurs. It isn't occuring when I am shifting or in neutral. It happens when I'm IN ANY GEAR...the lower the gear 91,2,3), the worse the jerk. The higher up the gear (4,5,6), the lesser the effect.

It's a small jerk-quick but you can't deny it didn't just happen.

Search around for a thread on 03 cls that talks about our engines "cold cycle". A member nailed it. My car does it, too. Happens around 2k rpm. The engine feels like it's skipping but it's the engine going from hot cycle to cold cycle. Maybe some of the other folks can point to it.

Yeah it happenes to me as well. I think it was allmotor2000 or it was in a thread that he started that someone said it is supposed to happen. Something about the engin switching from cold engin setup to a normal running temp setup.

My 01 auto CL-S does the exact same thing. It happens almost in the same place and at the same time every morning--slight hesitation--and then is normal the rest of the day. This has been going on for more than 2 years so I assume it's normal.

Yes!!!!!! It happens to me all the time. It doesn't matter how long i warm up the car. Once it happens it doesn't happen again. I found that you have to be VERY VERY VERY VERY slow in letting the clutch out the first time you shift from 1>2. You still feel it but it isn't as bad.

My slush box has a slight vibration for the first mile, regardless whether I let the engine warm up in the garage, it still vibrates till all the fluids "do their thing", then it fine for the rest of the day. This has been since DAY ONE ! Why have i done nothing about it, because I don't want those mechanic's ripping out my engine, cam shafts, timing belt shit.......NO THANKS....I learned to live with it. He just hit 55,000 california miles !

ive had the same problem on a few occasions, but i figured it was normal..also when you are shifting down in gears, the car is gonna jerk slightly b/c of the RPM difference....also, my clutch is starting to slip on me, which sucks cause I have @ 18k on it and the dealer says there is nothing they can do except replace it, but i have to pay for it... oh well it will last me long enough til i can get the stage III racing clutch

Finally got a chance to repeat this procedure 3 times today. Started the car from COLD to 100% normal temperature by letting her idle. When I drove off, I don't get the "jerk" effect! I guess it is normal when the engine is going from COLD to 90-95% normal temperature.
