6MT Guys - Ever forget about 6th Gear?
I know this sounds retarded. I've driven a 5MT for years. I've found myself driving down the highway in the CL-S6 with the tach at 3200rpm in 5th gear and it's a WTF moment before I shift into 6th.
BTW - I've only had the CL-S for 6 weeks.

My gf has a 5 speed Impreza, and when she drives my car, she always forgets about 6th gear. I don't think I forgot about it once, but that when I had just gotten the car. I hadn't had a manual for a long time when I got my CL.

When my wife drives my car, she often shifts from 5th back into 4th thinking she is shifting into 6th. Since it is so quiet inside, she doesn't realize it and STAYS in 4th. It does wonders for my gas milage.
When she does it and I'm in the passenger seat, I use my kind voice to say, "I wonder why the tach is reading so high." She then slaps her forehead and says, "Did I do it again?"
It's wise to love your wife more than your car, so I don't make more of it--except I do try to keep her out of my car as much as possible--without being too obvious.

Nope, I don't forget... Sometimes I push in the clutch and try to grab 7th gear tho'
I did notice that I was cruising @ 80 in fourth this morning but because of the late sox game I was only operating on a few hours sleep.
When I'm getting on the highway, I usually push the clutch in on 4th gear, shift into 5th and straight into 6th (and then let go of the clutch). I just shift it into 5th 'cause I like rowing thru the gears but I usually go from 4th to 6th. 5th gear is nice when I'm coming up on traffic tho'.

Sometimes i feel there is more torque for the next gear, I am ready to shift, and then I realize I am on 6th gear.
I used to drive a Toyota Corona 4-speed, then I started driving a Subaru Legacy 5-speed, now with the CLS 6-speed I feel I have learned about the gear history.
My father used to drive a 71 Dodge Coronet 3-speed MANUAL. Now that is weird !

I use sixth as its intended - as a highway gear for fuel economy.
I'll skip fifth sometimes when I'm accelerating to highway speeds at a leisurely rate.
Most of my daily driving is in fourth or less. Even on the freeway in traffic at speeds of 50-60MPH, I find that I like the powerband that fourth puts me in over fifth or sixth.

I hardly ever use 6th. Only on the highways and that’s only a few times a month.
It’s great for long trips though with the cruise set at 75-80.
Most of my daily travels are city driving and back country roads where I live in 3rd & 4th.
And I also admit that I’ve gone looking for 7th gear more then once.

3rd gear will take you up to 80, so it's real easy to cruise in light traffic in 4th...

I have the opposite problem, when im in my parents truck (5sp), firebird (3 sp) or my friend's 330i (5sp) I always will be in 5th (or 3rd), put the clutch in and start to shift and realize....duh, there's nothing else. It almost seems weird not to have a 6th!

I skip 5th alot because I usually shift out of 4th @3k rpm, so thats about 60mph which wont bog 6th. I like everyone else, only use 6th when on the expressway or at speeds continuously more than 50mph.
I have never reached for 7th, but I have gotten 4th a bunch of times when looking for 4th. I havent done it for a couple months, but it took me a good 6 months to find 6th everytime witout thinking about it.
I dont ever forget about 6th, but in my Mustang I often reach for 6th - which is reverse. My gf was driving behind me once and I tried to reach for 6th is the stang and it lit up the reverse lights. I told her I wanted to see what it was like to put it in reverse at 80mph, but the stupid car wouldnt let me.
