6-Speeders without headers

Hey guys... I need someone that does not have headers on their 6-speed to do a check for me... Where is your Tach sitting when you are doing 60MPH in 6th gear... ??? I installed my headers this weekend and I noticed it is at 2000 steady going 60 in 6th gear... it used to sit around 2500...

Re: 6-Speeders without headers

Smitty,

How much did you pay for your headers? I will check in the morning on the way to work and let you know.

ooh yeaaaah

Yeah you do that.. check it out for me... it made my ears raise... I paid 999.00 shipped to my door from Comp Tech in CA... through Deansbluesi

How they feel.???... Un-fucking believable... Big difference... the car does not want to stop going..... the tach just jumps 1st, shift 2nd shift bark third... shift 4th... You freaking fly through the gears...Literally... red line very quickly....

The wheels and the crankshaft are locked to eachother in a manual transmission. The amount of power generated won't change that. You might need less throttle to maintain a given speed, but the ratio of crank speed to wheel speed (and thus mph) won't change.

Went well

I changed my oil, MOBILE 1 (5W-30).. Installed my Sways, Headers and Chikai's Sways from 8-5 P.M.... a hard days work... I hope you don't have large forearms or you are in trouble..

The install went great... All power tools were used... Without them and if you have alot of miles on your car.. forget it.. you would be pushing shit out of your ass all day... the shit is torqued on there pretty good... but my car is still so damn new, everything just fell off and I did not have shit falling in my eyes until I worked on Chikai's buggie..

I dropped the A-Pipe first after I put the rear sway on... I then did the front sway.. which made it easy... with the A=pipe out of my way.... I unbolted the heat shiled and front FORGED exhaust manifold... (Wait till you see these heavy ass things... I think I shed atleast 60 pounds off of my car... Then I went for the rear heat shield and manifold... Bolted up the headers,(did not torque everything till it was all in place... but I recommed torquing the rear header because it is a biatch..Anti-Seized everything including the compression rings... put the compression rings in and put the A-pipe back on.. installed the O2 senser back and torqued everything down... You wait man.. your arms will be pretty chewed up... If Comp Tech was smart they would of welded some nutz on the back of the joints, instead you get nuts and bolts in a bag and they are not easy to torque at all... be prepared to get your freaking box wrench wedged in there and beating the crap out of it to get it out...(happened twice)( SNAP-ON tools too)

Went well... 8 hours for 2 sets of sways and the headers... I had the A-pipe out and the sways on before K-dawg even showed up... and we got done with my car at about 3 P.M. Tightening everything down to spec is the bitch..

Ohh yeah

You want track results.... I lined them up 6 times with a 2002 Firebird WS6..(he was bone stock 6-speed)... (my best friend).. anyways... the fucker did not pull on me at all!!!!!!... a matter of fact we did 2 runs were we both downshifted from 5th to 3rd... I did nothing but pull away from him... he said he had it smashed.. He drove my car after that because I wanted to see how my ride looked rollin out... the wheels look great but when he down shifted from 5th to 3rd when we were door to door.. it was so freaking unbelievable.. the car took off and was screaming... I down shifted his bird and tried to catch him,, he was gone!!... Neither one of us can believe it... but he says my car is mad crazy and he wants one...LOL... too bad he got that bird for 30K and 0% APR for 5 years... I would of had one if it would fit in my fucking garage... but my choice was a great one in my eyes..

I did not ask for your terminolgy why !!.. I asked someone with a fucking 6-speed to tell me where their RPMS sit going 60 MPH in 6th gear... what don't you understand about that??... I want a answer for my specific question... you know.. forget it...turn your CPU off and go to bed... and unless you can answer my question stay off my post.

I'm positive it's 2000rpms. You sure it was at 2500 before?

Thanks for all the info with the install. the headers are the very next thing! I'm pretty sure my motors is spinning around 2,000 revs at 60mph. but i could be wrong, i'll go check tomorrow.

Congrats on the headers. It sounds great.

I didn't get up to 60 on the way to work today (damn traffic). I'm pretty sure that 60 in 6th is around 2100 - 2200. I know that you're right and the needle is above the 2000 line - I don't think it was up to 2500 though.

In our 5th Auto, it is even lower, I do 2000 rpm at 70 MPH!

But 6-speed makes more power to the ground, I gues MPG is comperable.

Headers will not change the relationship between ground speed and RPM in any gear. That is determined by gear ratios and tire diameter. I have test driven a CL 6 speed and I noticed that 6th gear gave 60 at 2,000 rpm. Same as you observed. Your observation before the headers must be wrong.

Nevermind.... you really are stupid... I thought just maybe you could not read.... but you truely are an idiot and you can not read.

Smitty,

I was at 2100 this morning at 60 in 6th, but I was also towing a waverunner. 2000 sounds about right. That is unbelievable that you were hanging with the WS6. There is no doubt in my mind now that I have to have the headers. Are you running factory exhaust?

Yes, I am running factory exhaust... but you will get only about 3-4 HP gain from the Comp Tech exhaust... I am trying to figure out how the tips looks compared to mine.. that will decide if I get them or not... I am amazed at how I pulled away from him when we both went 5th to 3rd and we were going about 60 MPH...The gear ratios in both cars is so different... his torque is high and his top end is a killer, we flew his bird up to 138 MPH in 5th gear at 5000 RMP yesterday.. that was fast... and fun... what a rush...

Put this in the wrong post originally.

A wheel circumference of 79.96 Inches or 6.663 Feet
Engine RPM of 2000
Overall ratio of 2.534 in Sixth

2000 / 2.534 = 789.3 Wheel RPM
789.3 * 6.663 = 5259.1 FPM (Feet per Minute)

or

59.76 MPH

This is regardless of Headers, nitrous even a flugalbinder...

Okay I guess

I guess I should of been more specific in the question or justed PMed Shawn since he is running 18 inch wheels and the same size tire as me... what a mess...

Bottom line I thought it was higher while driving in 6th without the headers... thats all i really wanted to know... I thought I was going crazy or something... apparently I am... But thanks guys for the input... MT6forlife, there are no hard feelings... I was just trying to figure out what the hell you were trying to say when i really only wanted was a comparison.... besides I think I was PMSing last night... it was one hell of a weekend and I am glad I got the install done at 1600 miles..

Thanks again
