6-speed transmission failure

I have an '03 CL-S 6-speed with 20000 miles on it. 16000 of those miles are from driving back and forth from Birmingham AL to Louisiana cruising in 6th at 80mph. so technicly the car has about 4000 miles of of use on the syncros. to be safe we will call it 5000 miles. anyway the car started grinding occasionly into 2nd and into 3rd gears. I tooi it into KINK ACURA in Birmingham AL. after they had the car for two weeks I got it back. I spoke with the mechanic who did the repairs and he said that the scycros showed no signs of abnormal wear or abuse, he said thay just wore out. they replaced the syncros for 2nd and 3rd and a few other associated parts. the mechanic even said to me that he had no idea why they failed so early and that he couldnt guarentee that it wouldnt happen again. Does anyone have any input as to why this could have happened so early? I rarely drive the car hard and have been on a manual for over 7 years. clutches usualy last me about 100000 miles to give you an idea of how i drive.

thanks for any comments

Maybe just your bad luck. I might be wrong, but I think this is only the 2nd 6 speed to have problems posted here. The other guy had problems with syncro's too.

I'd guess 'shit happens' applies to this situation.

You didn't say if the dealer covered the costs under warranty or if you had out-of-pocket costs.

I had no out of pocket cost. but KING Acura in Bimingham AL did not have any loner cars available so they gave me a rental. It was an extended cab four door 1500 silverado Chevey truck. whooo what a change!!! Those basterd did make me pay for insurance on the truck though. I opted not to take the insurance it was optional and it cost 17.99 a day. the rental was 35.99 a day.

Great to hear they thought it was a warranty item.

Apart from the rental issue, it sounds like you were taken care of well. That's the kind of thing we like to hear.

Honda/Acura builds some of the best manual transmissions in the world.....how many complaints about the 6MT have we heard? When it comes to autos, they could stand to learn a few things.....:P

Ya, Honda makes good engines.

But they should *BUY* their tranmission from someone else.

I actualy think that the honda acura transimission is among on of the best manual transmissions i have ever driven. as far as the quality of the moving parts is concerned i dont know. but for the feeling and crispness of shifts i firmly believe it is among the best.

for what it is worth
