6 speed owners scared to "test" the car?????

Well the 6 speeds have been out for 2 months now or longer and quite a few of you have had one for that length of time but yet no one has done any type of "testing" to this thing...no one has dyno'ed it....no one has ran a 1/8 or 1/4 mile in it.....no one has even raced against anyone.....no one has raced side by side with an auto CL-S to see if there is any difference....im sure MANY people here are anxious, much like me, to see some hard data or proof that could back up all the talk from certain 6 speed owners claiming SO much more power and speed and acceleration...isnt it time that we got some hard numbers on any of this??? how about at least a 6 speed vs. auto CL-S race to see where the cards fall.

I gave my reasons in other posts several times before.

it seems that all of you 6 speed owners have broken in the cars by this point (over 600 miles)....is there any other excuse? my 2002 has 2000 miles and it seems broken in....are you guys telling me than with more milage it will get MORE broken in and FASTER??? anyhow, it would be cool if some 6 speed owners either shit, piss, or get off the can!! no more excuses....there is alot of hard talk about the speed and chirping the gears and the throw-you-in-your-seat acceleration but no proof to back anything up.

I agree 6sp owners are wimps! If I had a 6sp I'd have 10-15 kills notched on my belt!

Actually, that is true... as you put more and more miles on a car it will loosen up further. While it's true that the car is broken in around 1000 miles or so... it will continue to loosen up for as much as 5k-7k more miles or so. After that though... it's pretty much done......

i would expect the 6spd to have about 220whp....which is taking about a 15% drivetrain loss which is about right for a FWD.

Nashua_Night_Hawk,

How did you get those DYNO shop listings?
Is there an online database somewhere?

I can’t find anything in my local phone book and I even asked at the local speed shop I by my stuff at and they said there were none nearby me.

Thanks,
Shawn S

I am getting mine in two weeks, b/c I ordered it and believe me it wont take long to get the required miles, so look for my times in 3-4 weeks. It will probably included mods like intake, headers and pulleys.

Thanks.....The one in Nazareth is the only one close to me.
I will give them a call.

What questions should I ask?

I heard there were some brands of DYNO machines that aren’t that reliable.

how many pulls for a baseline (usually 3)? A/F metering? if you would mod/tune the car while it's strapped how much per hr?

Those centers have the dynojet dynos, the best!

I checked out a place in Atlanta listed on that site and they were charging $65 for 3 pulls.

All the more reason to dyno & track test them at ~600-1000 miles and then more down the road, to document the increase in performance. Some engines (notably the Chevy LS1 loosen up considerably, while others such as mine, not so much)

I bought my six speed for myself - not to impress you. No dyno for me. Ha! Why would I pay money for someone to attempt to quantify my fun?

(obviously, I'm not a racer or interested in bragging rights)

100 miles is no where near break in mileage. I hope no one is stupid enough to dyno their car that early. Unless you can talk your salesman into a solo test drive for a few hours, I'd feel bad for the guy who ends up buying that car though.

So no one has done a redline pull in their 6 speedbefore 100 miles? A dyno run isn't going to hurt anything.

If the motor can't handle a dyno run, it was a POS to begin with, better to find out early than later.

Thats what i am saying...I woulnt think that a dyno run at 100 miles wouldnt "kill" anything...but it would be a good judgment of what happens between 100 miles on the car and 1000...to see if it actualy makes an increase in HP.

In a 6 speed you need to look at your gear ratios and find which one is closest to a 1:1 ratio and dyno the car in that gear.

My guess is that either 4th or 5th gear will be close to a 1:1 ratio.

Typically you start the pull around 1,500 to 2,500 rpms, punch the gas until you hit redline (or the revlimiter) and then you are all done.
