6 speed drivetrain durability with drag radials
6 speed drivetrain durability with drag radials
I plan on getting a pair drag radials within a month or so for my 03 CL-S6. I probably am going to mount them on the stock wheels for the track or possibly find a cheap set of wheels. I just am curious as to what I should be careful of when going to such a sticky tire with this car. I am a pretty competant driver, so I'm not expecting 6k rpm clutch dumps and no breakage. I fully plan on taking it relatively easy to get a feel for what the car likes. I'd just like a 60' anywhere in the 2.0's, which would theoretically put me close to low 14's since my 14.5 came with a 2.30 60'.
Is it not worth it, because I dont really wanna risk blowing something major. I realize clutch, axles, and tranny take the grunt of the abuse. But, are they strong enough for some moderately strong launches?
And if anyone has used dr's with a 6 speed I'd love some launching tips.
edit: Also, htf do I heat them up without tons of wheelhop? Should I get 2 wheel spin in the burnout box or no? I assume e-brake and 3-4k clutch dump, but 1st or 2nd gear?

my question ... how in the world do you do a drag radial burnout with a CLS?, The emergency brakes are worthless!.. they can't stop the CLS from moving if the rpms are anywhere higher than 1500 rpms!

Don't worry... you can do a burnout on drag radials or slicks on a 6mt without any problems!! Just do a 6K RPM clutch dump and it will SPIN!!
On DR's.... drop the tire pressure to around 16psi and depending on how much power you have, drop the clutch at around 3K probably.

I dont plan on side-stepping the clutch at 6k just to get them warm.
I figure a nice healthy waterbox, e-brake fully locked, and modulating the wheels left to right should at least get a decent amount of haze.
What kinda slicks did you use Allmotor and what 60's were you pulling? Any drivetrain problems ie clutch, axles, tranny etc?

Well, I broke the pressure-plate with slicks - albeit with the Comptech clutch on. 60's were not that great - 1.98 or something. You need suspension work to really drop those!
You can't get it to spin unless you drop the clutch at 5-6K.
