my friend in his 540 went against his cousin in his new g35c, both of em r bone stock autos, 540 won 4 of 4 races by 1-2 cars up to 70ish
the g35C is gonna go against me soon, its next on my " to kill" list

540i performance
my business partner has a 2000 6 spd 540i. i've never ran him with my cl-s, but my last car was an 02 nissan altima 3.5 se
w/5spd manual. stillen intake/exhuast. i ran him 0-60 from a green light and we were head to head. we had to shut down for lack of road. i'm sure from third gear on he would have smoked me. i also ran a g35c auto from a green light in the altima and it was also head to head until 3rd gear i started to pull.
the only 540i i ran with my cl-s 6spd was an auto 540 and in 3rd gear i was no match for the bmw's v-8 torque. but when i caught up to him again to get another ass whooopin we were already doing 85 mph. this time i was in 4th gear and there were different results the 540i couldn't pull me from 85-115mph. we shut down .
i don't think acura ever intended for the cl-s to be a 1/4 mile monster but it wins the crown for being a cruise missile. one thing about the altima according to stillen the intake/exhuast combo on that car were good for 19.6 wheel hp or 29 flywheel hp.
taking it from a stock 240hp to 269 hp/250+ ft lbs trq. 3263 lb car.
i have a large stack of rent-a-car reciepts from owning that altima for 8 mo.
5 mos. in with my cl-s and no rent-a-cars i worked on cars for 17
years and that experience showed me what i already knew. honda/acura all the way. going faster isn't everthing.

i think all the magazine times for an auto 540 are bullshit, they are low-mid 14 sec cars, drive one and you'll know, mad torque all through the gears, theres no reason why a 540 auto cant beat a g35c auto

A 540 Auto (sport package that is) can do mid to low 14's all day long...it's amazing how some of you pull the worst numbers ever published by car mags and say "it runs 14.8 so we should take it". A manual CLS is a different story all together as I feel that car is very capable of mid to low 14's stock. G35s are quick but not that quick, and yes a 540 will walk it after 80 with no problem, hell I wouldn't be surprised if a 740 will walk the G after 80.

I'll admit that it was fairly close to about 40, then I started to pull (yes I was modded, but keep in mind that Dinan stuff, unless supercharged doesn't do much) and by 100 I was pulling even harder. We must have done this about 5 times. As a matter of fact, the G35 will launch harder due to it's lighter weight but the 540 eventually catches it and passes it. Against auto, not sure what it can and can't do against G35C.

4500 miles on her car no problems. 14000 miles on the 6spd of course no problems. we drive the piss out of both cars. not haten

i still dont understand why people think the WRX is so fast. It was bone stock the kid had the car for a week and had no idea how to drive it. His best was a 14.7....his average was a 15.0...he wasn't the best driver

See how ommitting these very pertinent details can completely change the tone and meaning of your post?...you first made it sound like a 740 can beat a wrx from a stop...driver independant...

I think it would be a close race but while Nissan overstates HP numbers, BMW understates them. The weird thing is 280hp from a V-6 and the 540 has "only" 282 hp from it's 4.4. ( I like the BMW only).
G35s coupes are very quick cars off the line in manual and auto forms don't sleep. Shit, I really can't call it. I can say I have seen 6 second plus figures in magazines for the G35c and I have always seen sub 6 second figures for the 540.

G35 coupe with the manual will easily walk over the heavy 540i. Both the top magazines car/motor both have the g at 14.2 1/4 and I have seen the gs at the track hit 14flat stock. The auto g vs a 540 manual will be a close race.

Autos, on the highway the cars pull even up to 120mph+. The winner is the better driver around any traffic.
I met a 540 manual guy as he was interested in the GS (reliablity issues). He was a car guy, owned a 911 turbo as well. This is my car with SRT Intake and upgraded suspension. We took his car through the backroads first. He drove then I drove it. Amazing for a stock car, it was a MANUAL, sweet as can be.
We then drove my car the same way (hard) on the same roads. We both concluded, acceleration was even or negligable if one was faster. My car handled much more flatter than his and we took my car at higher speeds in the twisties. My brakes (upgraded too) were better. Feel was better in his car, due to tight steering and the manual.
That is why I really LAUGH as guys that have no clue. When a magazine gets 6.1 and another car 5.9 (for example) it's a drivers race. I say a car a truly faster when it is .5 seconds faster than another car. Then driver error can be overcome through the power of the larger or better engine.
And as someone has stated, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE don't quote ONLY what u want.
For example, Altima owners love quoting that 5.9 sec for the manual and 6.2 for the auto but never mention the 7.1 in Road and Track.
