5300rpm rev bouncing problem. help!

hey, still on my first week of owing this car. i raced my buddy in his 330ci 6mt the other day and while i did beat him, i noticed a really weird thing. on my way up revs in both first and second, it felt like the car hit the rev limiter at 5300 rpm i thought i was just not glancing at it at the right time so i had my friends in the car watch the tach and ran it again. same thing i would get to 5300 and it would wub wub wub wub and not rev any higher!!

my thought is that since im the second owner the computer has goten used to the first owners driving habits i dont really know tho. i really need help on this one! what's going on with my new baby!!

PS. i let my girlfriend name her.... wait for it... BOSS BITCH!

Hmmm, definitely sounds like something's off there. How could you beat a 330i with the car only going up to 5,300 RPM. Just doesn't add up. You sure you not just experiencing the VTEC kicking in at 4,800?

Sounds like VTEC isn't engaging. Check the oil. I bet it's low. My brother had a problem when the dealership forgot to put oil back in his Accord.

Yep, but when I mean low, I mean almost none.

Yes... there is an oil pressure sensor that will tell the ECU if it can engage VTEC. Low oil pressure (low oil) equals no vtec...

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=pressure+vtec

I can rev out to a little over 7200 rpm on my 6spd, so you definitely have something screwy going on...

Yeah man your car is broke. No CL should do that. Maybe your tach or tach signal wires is busted.

Yup you will love the car even more once you can get the full power out of it.

Now PLEASE change your avatar before it gives someone a seizure

i had the same problem with my car.

i checked my oil level and it was kool too.
i checked the vtec solenoid to see if it was dirty (and re-cleaned it anyway) and that was also fine.
The thing for me that wasnt allowing my Vtec to engage was a HUUUGE dent on my oil pan. that dent cause the lack in oil pressure for me. Check ur oil pan to see if u may have bottomed it out anywhere or hit a rock or dead person on the road to dent it

It sounds like you hit the gas really hard that caused the rpms to shoot really high before it hit could hit a certain speed that will prevent the fuel cutoff to disengage.

no dents and the oil cap is on good and tight. what about the oil filter... could the last oil change place have put on a filter thats too small? like put a CL-p filter on?

I would think that his car is in limp mode and no CELs are being thrown...it can happen.

Check Kris' (fsttyms1) thread over in the 2G TL forum. IIRC he had the same issue when he put the 6spd and typeS engine in his TLP.

Thanks for the info, I started reading through it we'll see if I find it

Its weird because for me it happened after I did a UIM port and polish, oil change and valve adjustment.

At first I thought it might be the engine wire harness that goes above the rear valve cover.

I guess it came down to the front cam gear and the cam sensor clearances. I have the 6spd parts but maybe it screwed something up when I was rpotating the front cam gear to get every cylinder to TDC.
