450hp A6 !!
So the fastest and quickest Audi now is an A6. Dubbed the RS6. Audi put in the 4.2 liter V8 from the A8 and added 2 turbos to it. Result: 450HP @ ??? and toruqe: 410 lb-ft @ 1950rpm !!! all the way to 5500 rpm !!!
0-100km/hr (0-62.1mph)= 4.9 seconds with an automatic tranny!!
Top Speed governed at 155mph
So the car will only come with a Tiptronic (like our Sportshift) type of a transmission with paddles behind the steering wheel.
The car will only come as an AWD (permanent AWD).
Although the top speed is governed at 250 km/hr, the speedometer shows 310km/hr (192.6 mph)!!!
The weight is about the same as the S6 (1800kgr or 3964 pounds!! - wow...heavy).
Tires are 255/35/18 all around (same as the S6). The turbos come from Cossworth Technologies which Audi owns now (bought from loser Ford ). The price is expected to be 85,000 Euros or $74,000.

So I am thinking that the 150HP, 1.8 liter engine, in the A4, people can tweak to reliably make 300HP+, with not much money invested. Thus, I see no problem tweaking this monster to 650HP. Cos putting that power to the ground will not be an issue with AWD and these stock tires. I would actually leave the governor at 155mph. I am sure 3.5 seconds for the 0-60 is doable if the tranny can take it. :P

That is an M5 fighter.... too bad. I would not spend a $74,000 on it.... cause I do not have such money yet.....
But really this is a really a fabulous ride....
Imagine what a $500 chip upgrade does for that Bi-Turbo V8!....
Can some one give me those $75,000, or make that a $100,000

The next S4 looks like it will get this same engine only without the turbos. Expect 330HP-340HP. Six speed is guarranteed.

the next S4 would shown for the first time in 2002 Geneva Auto Show, And it would arrived to the US next year March to June 2003 as an early 2004 Model...
I want a 6-speed SMG on the S4!
Also, If the S6 got a Bi-Turbo, I would say it would be feasible to drop that BI-Turbo on the S4....
Yummy,..... 450Hp on S4......

About the SMG. I agree 100%. We need to see more brands offer what BMW has with SMG II. THat type of tranny bridges the gap betweek auto and manual and no one has any complaints.

I think the new S4 will be based on the 2.7V6TT, maybe up'd to 3.0V6TT.
The RS4 in Europe does 380HP already and I think the S4 will top out around 300, same as the new Volvo S60/V70R AWD with 300 HP.
Both cars are set for later this year or the beginning of next year.
The Audi's are way overpriced in Europe also but at least they are making some attractive models which can't be said from Honda with their sucky 4 cylinders only.
I used to be a Honda man but Honda screwed up big time in Europe.
The only 6 cylinders are with the US Accord coupe and the Legend which are both non selling models.
Now the diesels are very popular and these things really scream nowadays.
Whenever driving on the autobahn at speed around 125 mph the diesels are all behind, above and in front.
Those stupid VW turbo diesel vans are doing 100mph easy!

I would get this car in a minute over an M5, totally crazy looking. My brother has an A6 2.7T and thats fun, I can just imagine how much fun this car would be.
Anyway, the current 5 series styling is beyond played out IMO.

$75k? Talk about over-priced.
You're right - an M5 is a better purchase for that money.
But hey, if they can sell them at $75k, why not sell them at $75? :-\
The only way good cars will become affordable again is if everyone refused to pay over-the-top prices for them. Alas, a few people have enough money to not care how much it costs and so the manufacturer can find enough buyers to justify the high price.
That RS6 should be a $50k car. Then again, the M5 should only be around $55-60k.

OK here is the article:
Audi is set to unleash the world's most powerful executive car when it launches the potent new RS6, Auto Express can exclusively reveal. And that means the BMW M5 and Mercedes AMG E55 will be the big rivals of the 440bhp flagship addition to the forthcoming new A6 range.
The RS6 is powered by a turbocharged edition of the 4.2-litre engine that's fitted to the S6. It's expected the awesome new machine will cost as much as £65,000 when it arrives in the UK, and will be available as a saloon as well as an Avant. To ensure the RS6 is every bit as sure-footed as its rivals, it will use Audi's famed 'quattro' four-wheel-drive system. Power will be delivered through the firm's Tiptronic gearchange system which will feature steering wheel mounted control buttons, adding to the car's sporting feel.
It's thought the German firm has chosen not to use a manual gearbox, because it would not suit the character of the car. Capable of sprinting from 0-60mph in Porsche 911 Turbo-rivalling 4.7 seconds, the RS6's top speed will be limited to 155mph. Without restrictions the car could reach 180mph. Tipping the scales at 1,900kg, it is far from a lightweight sprinter, but it's thought the machine's long-distance cruising ability will be second to none.
Fans of the 380bhp RS4 will inst-antly recognise some of the styling cues of the new RS6. Not only does it have the same 18-inch wheels shod with 255/35 ZR18 tyres as its A4-based brother, but it also uses similar front and rear spoilers and the now familiar red and silver RS badging. Inside, carbon fibre and sports bucket seats add a dash of sportiness to the luxurious interior. Drivers can specify satellite navigation, in-car television and phone systems, but expect leather and alcantara trimmed power-assisted seats, electric windows and a CD player as standard. Even though Audi is understandably excited about its RS6, don't think that the company has forgotten about the rest of the range. Before the new RS6 hits the streets, an entire new raft of A6s will arrive here in less than 18 months.
Styling has been taken from the A4, notably the more squared off and angular rear lamps and reworked valance. Changes to the cabin area include redesigned dials for the stereo, and chrome-ringed instruments.

A company does just overprice a product. A limited production RS4 would be way too expensive for our market. Americans that want to spend a lot of money in cars prefer to buy brand name. If they are going to spend $65K-$70K on a sports car, why get a wagon and not get a 911. "At least it is a Porsche" (is the thinking).
The other (more important reason) is that Americans are less keen on buying sports cars due to the fact that sports cars usually have less room. Americans love SUVs and trucks. If they are going to buy a commuter, they will be an Accord or a Camry.
Of course the RS4 does have more room than an Accord but it is a wagon.

I love to say this, but BMW and Merc are gonna kill that i believe. The new E55 and M5's will probably wreck that. The M5 has 400hp already..it wouldnt be hard to raise that to 500. Mercedes already showed they can play big with the new SL55. Gotta love horsepower wars. The best is Infinity/ Nissan, and Honda/Acura.

You are all missing the point that these are limited production cars....they aren't meant to appeal to several thousand people a year, Audi imports only 400 S8's a year. When you are talking high end limited cars.....RS6/RS4, E55/S55/CLK55/, M5/Z8 etc, the whole idea of "value" goes out the window.
Audi is like BMW, they provide less product than the demand warrants....this is why you can generally never find the exact combo of options/colors you are looking for on the desirable models (they usually have to be factory orders).
If Audi brings the RS6 here at $75k, it would most likely only be 400 cars tops.....trust me, they sell every last one of them.
