3miles open road.....128mph.....@#$%!&
I opened her up tonight. Downshifted for more revs from 80.
All said and done. Could NOT break 130mph!!![](http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/frown.gif)
I thought the CL-S maxs at 149??!! What'd I do wrong?? (aside from speeding)
Only mod Xephyr CAI.

If you were in 4th, I'm stumped...
I've been able to hit about 114 MPH in 3rd, then shoot to 130 (up and back down very quick) without any trouble. But I was in SS mode and did the 115 - 130+ in 4th.
We have very tall gears, and 5th is lousy for high speed runs.
Be safe...

I believe the max speed is 147 -- at least that someone who had an AAA speedo test said.

Maybe there was a slight headwind or uphill grade that he couldn't see.

Where are you guys finding the time and place to open up like this?
I'd like to do this and give it a try, there's plenty of long, straight, open and flat roads in Kansas but there are cops around and I know as soon as I open up, I'll get busted.
I have hit 128mph before for a really short time and there was plenty more to go, so I would probably agree with the wind or uphill mdaniel answer.

Ive shot past the 130 mark several times since I got my CAI...
It just makes me wanna speed like a mofo. Terrible.
Ken: I find its easier to speed on highways that ARENT open... meaning... highways with lots of trees along the road.
As long as your familiar with where the cop hideouts are... (their marked on the navi in NY) then you know where to slow down... and just use your V1 as a backup warning.
The problem with highspeed on flat open road is... a cop can see you coming from a mile a way... and his visual judgement of your speed is just as important as the radar reading.

Ken Steele,
The only long straight road I have ever been in Kansas is the Topeka toll road. I drove the entire length of that highway last summer doing 80-100 mph and never saw a single cop. I was impressed by the somewhat scenic drive through Kansas. However, I have no idea what the laws are in Kansas, seem like the will automatically arrest you for exceeding 100 mph in Texas.

Over the Christmas holidays, I took that toll road to Kansas. That's where I hit about 130mph on some of those long straight stretches. It is a great road to speed on because of the solid median but there are openings every two miles or so for LEO to hide. On my way down to Texas, I did see a few cops and that made me a little nervous. I was even caught speeding once by a trooper that clocked me from the other side but of course he couldn't turn around.
The toll road is a bit too far from Kansas City for me to drive down for a day's run. But I agree the speed limit s/b about 85mph at least. I had a fair amount of traffic on my drive down and Kansans don't really know how to drive that well (i.e. they drive in the #1 lane at 60mph and won't move over....left lane bandits.)
My most memorable high speed runs were:
1.Eastbound I90 out of Rapid City, SD heading back to Minnesota in the opposite direction of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Did 190 miles in two hours.![](http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/smile.gif)
2.Eastbound I80 across the Salt Flats. I thought I was testing a rocket ship in the desert. I've never seen such a straight and flat road in my life.
3.Eastbound from Winnipeg, Manitoba towards Kenora in Canada. Here there are many miles of highway that is completely obsure with trees in the median. Impossible to see cars on the other side.
4.Southbound from Las Vegas across the desert on I15 to Los Angeles. Everybody knows this is a major raceway; nearly everyone on this road is in the high 80's minimum.
5.Finally, there was no posted limit north on I29 past Grand Forks. No cops either (I heard ND only had a 1/2 dozen state troopers anyway).![](http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/smile.gif)
Of course there's the long bridges across Florida and Louisiana, I95 from Boston to RI, I80 in Nebraska, I10 from San Antonio to El Paso, I'm sure there's others.![](http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)

raleigh; your car has a problem, get it checked out. 130 mph is very easy to obtain. think about it, basically 100 mph in a quarter mile. now after 130 mph it takes a while to get to 147.

I've taken it up to 120 once. I didn't even know I was going that fast. I thought I was around 100-105, then I looked down at the speedo and decided I was going a little too fast. However, the car had no problem getting there and I could have easily taken it much higher.

THANKS for all the inputs!!
Thinking back, I did start going uphill about 2.5 miles, and maybe I up-shifted too soon.
Anyway, I started backing off, after playing with a madza 323, then he pissed off a mustang, and those two were in road-rage zone. I watched them zig-zag, cutting each other off till their tail-lights disappered.
Hope those guys didn't end-up in the trees.
