390HP Thunderbird

Could a high-performance version of the Thunderbird be in the offing? That seemed a strong hint as Ford lifted the covers off the Thunderbird Performance Concept, a 390-horsepower version of the retro roadster. The tricked out ragtop features a supercharged, 3.9-liter V-8 and a lot of added flash, starting with the chromed louvers cut into the production car’s hood. Virtually every panel of the current T-bird was “massaged,” according to Ford design chief J Mays. Will the automaker build it? Stay tuned, but it would be in keeping with earlier pronouncements from Ford that it intends to maintain demand for the two-seater by regularly rolling out new variants.

I've always enjoyed the looks of the new Tbird but was a little dissappointed in the performance. So I've been waiting with bated breathe for an SVT Tbird...and while there is no mention of this being an SVT, it's still rockin'! But I'm not sure I like the louvered hood.

That would be cool, but ditch the goofy hood.

The funny thing is that when I heard of the figure 390HP, I thought this was the engine from the SVT Mustang Cobra. Interesting that they pulled the same amount of power from the 3.9 liter engine. Good for them. FOrd really needs a few grand slams in the car department. They depend way too much on trucks.

I like the normal version, but damn that is sweet! I love the hood with those chrome edges on the louvers. But the color of those leather seats don't seem to fit.
