350Z, me vs. G35c, some old guy and his wife

i had a wedding to go to in NY on Saturday, and on the way up on 95, while I was in the right hand lane, this graphite g35c kept running up on my bumper...kinda like 'lets play' It was on older guy with his wife. I was thinking he was just messing around because of the whole g35/z 'brotherhood' or whatever you call it..so he finally pulls along side of me when the spot opened up (there was some traffic). I was gonna give him the thumbs up/knod or whatever and the guy gives me this really snotty look like "you aint shit". he then proceeds to move into the left most lane.

At this point I figured lets dance mother-bitch. heheh. So I follow him in the left lane until it's just me and him on the road. I start to pull next to him on the right side and his wife turns her head looking at me with this funny scared look on her face like she knows her husband's gonna do something stupid like race someone again. So I hear the guy punch it before I was able to line up nose to nose with him. At this point we were doin 65 or so and I was in 6th gear. I downshifted (I pretty sure to 4th) and punched it. I walked past the guy much quicker than I thought I would. He was behind me within 3 or 4 seconds. By the time I saw my speedo hit 115 or so he was about 5 to 6 cars behind. That seems like a big gap considering my only mods are the crawford plenum and grounding kit so maybe he backed off cus his wife smacked him? Dunno. Sorry, no video, so this could all be huge BS. But seeing as this is my first posted kill, i figure you guys will give me the benfit of the doubt here... heheh yeah right.

oh, neither of them were fat btw...heh but i obviously had the weight advantage.

Sounds like another ignorant dude with the cash to afford a G-copue. The salesman probably lied and told him they were faster than 350z's when he purchased the car.

4th pulls pretty hard at 65-70 with the vq. Peak hp/tq with that motor is reached at around 4500 rpm's. dunno about third...i'm pretty sure if I thought third was within reach I would've gone to it but at the time I'm pretty sure 4th was the lowest i could go without the possibility of over-revving...65mph was a guess based on the speed limit...might have been faster...wasn't thinking in terms of gears at the time, was more watching my rpm's..that's why I said I wasn't sure if it was 4th or not in my first post. next time i'll try to pay more attention lol. I am sure about the 115 mph tho.that was when I thought "oh shit better slow down". One more ticket and i'm outa the game for good .

i'm new at this...next time i'll take better notes

Nice kill. You had a weight advantage (car is lighter and you were alone), he probably had an auto, and you have the crawford plenum (which helps your top-end power) so why wouldn't you have pulled as hard as you did? Sounds reasonable.

He probably let off towards the end but still.

the grounding kit won't give 10...probably more like 3 if anything at all. My crawford plenum tho..that's +20whp at redline, 10whp @peak...plus he could have been auto like someone said, and I guess there's a 10 hp diff between a G35 and a Z, plus the weight diff..yeah it makes sense when you put it all together like that.

from what I've heard/felt it improves electrical flow and hence the performance/efficiency of the ECU, thereby producing the (somewhat modest)gains. The car definitely feels smoother in the upper rpm's with the grounding kit. It really depends on the car/engine design if you'll see gains fro a grounding kit; some cars are adequately grounded from the factory; the Z apparently could have been grounded better. There was a noticeable difference after install.

he let off. the cars are waaaaay too similar for you to pull him like that. especially if he jumps and then you downshift. and your mods arent gonna make up the difference. but good kill.........i guess

i did say that was a possibility, but if he let off at all, he definitely let off after I passed him. He was WOT when I passed him...he was way high up in a gear...and even with the jump I walked by him in about 3-4 seconds. I thought about it more and it makes sense... my crawford intake is giving me 10whp @ peak to 20whp@ redline..grounding kit..who knows...but the Z weighs less than the G, he had a passenger, I didn't, and he was most likely not modded. Add to that the more restrictive stock intake on the G and you have a stock for stock hp dif of probably more than 5 to 10 hp with that alone.

i dont know if you were able to walk him within 3-4 seconds. it took an 03 cobra longer than that to take me and he was only one car behind when he punched it. now, if i have somewhere around 285-290 hp, and a cobra with crap loads of V8 torque and 390+ hp took about five seconds to just catch up and pass, then i doubt two cars with similar engines would give such a result.
not doubting your story because this is in the street and anything can happen. with headers on our cars(equivalent or better in gains compared to your plenum), we pull slowly away from stock types. it takes more than 50 hp to walk another car.
i bet you did win but somehow your story is a little exaggerated.

i dunno what to tell ya. like i said in my first post i was surprised myself. maybe he was a bad driver and i caught him in the wrong gear. maybe he got a friday car and i got a monday car? anyway i don't have a vid so if ya believe me cool, if not i understand...but the 3-4 second pass time is accurate.
