I am looking to convert my back seat to hold 3 people.
Does anyone know of a place that could make a custom leather cushion to replace the rear storage box?

After that, I was going to put in a middle lap belt, I should be able to get this from the dealer and just drill some holes into the body to mount this. Any thoughts on this?
Or I could just get the TL's middle seatbelt and put in the whole shoulder belt setup.

I figure all of this would be cheaper than getting a new car.

 

I saw a post about someone trying to swap a TL back seat in to their CL... try searching a little. I don't remember the outcome.

Already asked at PAA, the TL bench will not fit in the CL. I still would have to add in the seatbelts myself anyway. I am sure a small custom made cushin would be cheaper than a whole TL back seat.

 

How often do you have 5 people in your car anyways? If I remember correctly you are only supposed to have 700 pounds of cargo in your car at anytime, including passengers. So lets say 5 passengers at 160 pounds a piece... you are already looking at 800 pounds

 

yeah an extra person may be too much of a load for the CL.

 

The passengers I usually have in the back weigh at most 60 pounds each. (see my mods!!)

The the TL has 3 rear seat spots, so why not the CL which has the same engine and frame?

put a pillow back there and tell that person to hold on for dear life... if all else fails strap them into the other 2 seatbelts already int he backseat.

 

Is it even legal to put 3 people in the back of a car designed for 2? What about mounting for the seat belt? I'm sure Acura had DOT goons up their asses over every little design detail and you're just going to slap another belt in there?

 

I dont know ... when I have a 3rd that has to go in the back they can deal w/ the storage box or they can walk. And Ive had as many as 5 ppl (granted all girls about 100lbs or so each) in the back along with my buddy and another girl in the front passenger seat and me drivin. It wasnt a very long trip but the car handled it fine

 

I dont let anyone sit in my back seat.

In a pinch I have had someone sit on the rear middle storage lid. It was a girl though.

 

Bad idea... if you ever get in an accident with 3 peope in the back seat and someone in the back seat gets injured you might find yourself arrested or in prison, especially if you caused a death of a child.

Use your brain... Buy a mini van...

I managed to fit 7 people in my 97 CL for a short drive. 4 in the rear and 3 including me in the front. Lets just say the rear was tucking!

Only if they weighted alot. It's very sturdy.

 

we fit 11 in a 4 door civic to go from college park into dc. we got pulled over and the cops were laughing their asses off.

In a pinch I can fit 3 people in the back, but don't like to do it much for safety. I recall fitting 12 people in my Land Rover Discovery once, that was CRAZY---- But it was a 7 seater instead of a Civic's 5!! With 12 people in my Disco, it had a suspension like an '84 Oldsmobile-

 

we were rubbing the wheels...

there was the driver, 3 in the passenger seat, then four across the back with 3 people laying sideways across their laps.

fortunately it was me and two friends of mine, with 8 girls.

so that made it not so bad.

 

That's what I'm thinking now, not the minivan idea but about adding the 3rd seatbelt. I need to get something with 3 sets of belts in the back. Oh well, bye bye CLS.
Maybe I'll look into the Honda Pilot.
