225/50/17 Pilot A/S, will they work??? Need help!
Hey all -
I just got back from Costco. I decided to take a peak in the tire department, just for grins. They have a set of Michelins Pilot A/S 225/50/ZR17s for....
$682.00 including road hazard!!! Some guy decided he didn't want them, so they've discounted them BIGTIME to get rid of them.
Now... I will not even think twice about getting these, if the difference from 215/50 to 225/50 would work ok.
Please let me know. Since the 50 isn't changing, how if any will that affect the spedo.???
I need opinons, please!!! I'll probably go and get them later today or tomorrow if people think this is ok to do.
$682.00... Too good to pass up!

if these r the Pilot Sport A/S's, u're in for a real treat!!! these tires kick major ass and at that price, u'll b grinnin like the Grinch when u find out that most other people, including myself, have paid over $800 for these babies!! good catch, my friend!!
o, BTW, they fit fine, virtually eliminate the rim bulging out, and look pretty mean, esp if u're lowered...they actually make the rims look bigger too!!!

I'm not sure I follow you...how is getting a slightly WIDER tire going to make your car go fast then the speedometer reads?

The 225s are just fine for me. Only a 1.9% error in the speedo., and it's on the slow side for me. Works for me...

No need to get nasty. I'm still not sure how you figure that going from a 215/50 /17 to a 225/50 /17 makes the tire taller?? You aren't changing the diameter of the tire, nor the sidewall.

next the aspect ratio...50 in this case 50 is not a size...it's a percent...the side wall is 50% the width of the tire...looking at this might be confusing too...but remeber you have the side wall above the wheel and the side wal below...together they are 50% of 225 millimeters which is the width of this tire....where as in stcok form the side wall is 50% of 215 ...so easy math tell you the new tire is 10mm wider than stock and the side wall must be 50% of the 10mm (5 mm) taller...5 mm is about 1/4 inch...with this info you can figure out any tire combo...and you can understand how by going even wider i.e. 235...but having a smaller percent side wall 45 on this 17 you'll have a overall diameter of 25.4 from stock 25.5 ...if you wanna go faster smaller would be better like a muscle car might put in gears to get the engine to wind quicker overall tire diameter effects final gear ratio....
most tire shops no little to notthing...do what you want do what makes you happy...but I've had 245/45/17 on stocks and went almost 100MPH many times at the track...the 235/45/17 toyoT1-S i have now are better
