215/45/17 not safe for our cars??

....

my cousin turned in her lease on her is300 so i thought it would be a good idea if i used her snow tires, i took em to costco and they wouldnt put em on cause the rating, they said incase anything happens they dont want to be held responsible...

is there a chance something bad will happen w/ a 215/45/17 tire on my stock wheels??

thanks

db

They were probably talking about the load rating. We need an XL load rating on our tires cuz the CL's a little piglet.

I wouldn't do it darrin.

DOn't push a tire to its load limit especially the way you drive.

The ratings are there for a reason.

I am not an expert. I just have friends who work in suspension for Ford in Dearborn and roush in Livonia. Thats what there professional opinion was, knowing how I drive.

I was at NTB yesterday and they also wouldn't install anything but an XL tire on the CL.

Who besides Michelin makes one?

I wouldn’t push the limit on the Load Rating.
Especially on a “porky” vehicle like the CL-S.

Plus, if you have an accident because of a tire failure your insurance may be void.

Always think safety first. I always say, never put a price on your life when it comes to tires (and brakes). Don't be like some fools driving lowered GM SUVs/pickups ... on 13s. It just boggles the mind how the weight of a 5000 lb. truck can be supported by tiny tires.

Are there any snow tires in the stock size [bold] range [/bold] with an XL rating? I would imagine no. So you really don't have much choice. I have been running 225/45 Nokian snow tires in the winter w/o the XL rating and no troubles.
