Yah but everytime ive ever seen/heard of people busting the timeing belt/chain it also bent all there valves. So after you fix the new problems you still have to do the timing belt.

No kidding, just happened to my 86 300zx. Had to rebuild the engine because of it!!!!! But seeing that the memo just says that the car will stall causing chances to crash, i thought they implemented a safth mech to stop such damage. Not to be careless of course, but just incase.

Maybe, maybe not... Not all recalls effect all CL's. Depends on your vin.. My car got the belt tensioner taken care of but it wasn't in the vin range for the waterpump.

i had a timing belt grenade in my 92 prelude at about 6k in 3rd gear, it broke 14 out of 16 valves and almost cracked a piston. your not gonna have anything shooting out of your hood, and your car isnt going to immediately STOP if you break one, it will slow down quickly but no quicker than if you were to apply moderate brake pressure. when i happened to me i just pushed in the clutch and coasted to a stop (many four letter words were uttered in those few hundred feet)
btw i cant pull up any info on that recal, do it apply to MT and AT? will they repair if it actualy fails or is this only a preventative thing?

Something I think some people do that is a contributing factor to bent valves is that they try revving or stepping on the gas to make the car go and it causes more damage. I've known people who have had the belt break on a car that was actually quite susceptible to valve damage and amazingly it did not damage theirs. They shut the engine off real quick when it happened. They were either going really slow or they were working on the car in the driveway. I forget which. If it happens on the freeway though, you might be screwed. Don't know. Kevlar reinforced timing belt FTW baby! ....

Didn't see anything for my '03 6MT on the owner's link provided. Based on previous posts it makes sense that we're ok, but I'll still ask next time I am in the shop...
