2003 3.2CL Type S w/engine light on
My engine light came on last week in my brand new 3.2CL-S. It's only got about 8000 miles on it. It started about two weeks ago. If I took the RPMs over 5000, the engine light would flash for about 20 seconds and then go away. The light is now on solid (all the time). The local Acura dealer doesn't know what's wrong with it, and are just ordering parts and guessing at it. Parts they've ordered have been backordered for three weeks.
Has anybody had this experience, or can anybody help in any way?

speaking of maintanance lights. mine flashes for like ten secondc after the car is started and after the initial cluster warning lights come on when the car is first started. any idea's or am i just noticing it flash and its always done that? is it a scheduled maintanance reminder?

I had an integra for 5 years and my maintence light on that car would blink a few times after the instrument cluster lights would go off letting you know that it is coming near the time when you should get your service done. It will change to be constantly lit when you are either due or overdue for a service/oil change.

HOLY SHIT!
That is the SAME PROBLEM I HAD WHEN MY SHIT WAS BACK IN THE SHOP FOR 3 WEEKS!
The problem was a broken PISTON ROD. Actually, a BEARING. It made my car sound like a POS hooptie when I revved more than 2.5k RPMs...when I got above 4k RPM, the check engine light would flash and keep flashing for about 20 seconds or so.
I brought it in cause when I pressed down on the clutch and I released gradually, it felt very strange.
It took them 3 weeks to order and give me a new lower engine block!!! Basically a brand new engine. They told me this was the FIRST CLS 6-speed they've seen have this problem. Hope this is NOT going to be widespread...sur esucks!!

At first my dealer assigned the BEST technician to look at my ride. He drove my ride in the lot and the check engine light didn't come on. I could hear the strange sounds from the passenger side where i was sitting. He couldn't tell what was wrong by driving the car...since he was moving about 5 mph, he couldn't tell.
so I dropped the car off and the next day they called me and told me it was a MAJOR engine problem. Basically something was banging in the lower engine block..and without opening up the lower block, the technician said it was a piston rod...but later on confirmed that it was a rod bearing.
It took a while to order the lower engine block and parts. They gave me a whole new engine block (lower) and now the ride is sweet..just have to break-in for a 1000 miles...no hard revving...
I only had 3900 miles on the ride!!!!!! It was a scary ordeal because everytime I drove it past 4k rpm, the car felt a bit strange with some strange sounds...hooptie like sounds...and the engine light kept flashing...it was pretty scary...I thought I broke the car...
Anyway, I drove around in an RSX for over 3 weeks which was fun for the first week...after that, it sucked..compared to the CLS. I got my ride back now and is babying it for 500 miles left to go before I rip her open again.
I really really hope it ain't like the tranmission problem on the auto CLS...hope this is just bad parts on some CLS's..
Good luck..and make sure you have a good technician working on it...it really seems like your case is very similar to mine. I hope not....

Forgot to add if you want to have your technician at your own acura dealer call mine here is the info:
ACURA OF SEATTLE:
1-206-433-1000
Technician: Forgot his name but here is the great tech advisor I was working with:
John Ketner
Just call them and ask for John...he should remember a BLACK 6speed CLS that had lower engine block replaced...see if this can help you!

Thanks DDT-TypeS, I may give him a call, because the mechanic working on my car definitely doesn't know what's going on.

Hope it turns out to be something less than a lower engine block replacement cause that would suck...since you have such low miles...
good luck!
My 2002 CL Type-S did that a few weeks ago; at 7500 to be exact. It was time for me to change the oil. In the manual it tells you how to reset it. Hope it's nothing more serious than that...
