2001 Stock nav on 2003 model

a friend of mine is selling her 2001 CLS w/ Navi and was wiling to sell me her dash w/ Navi to put n my car for cheap ($1000 or so ???) since she'll be losing money selling the car anyways... Is it possible? how much work would be involved? Will everything snap in right?

you would not just need the navi screen and stuff...you need her climate control parts, you need the DVD rom from the trunk, you need the GPS antenna under the rear decklid....everything needs to be rewired.....climate control, stereo, navi, etc.....youd have to rip apart both cars to get all of the associated parts

so basically you just have to plug in the appropriate snap on parts to the other appropriate snap on parts right? b/c climate control and all that stuff just plugs in to each other.. and DVD rom from trunk I can get... I did know I would hav to get her temp controls so that's no problem... how about the antenna though? where is it located and how mcuh wiring is necessary to put it back in?

I tihnk "rip apart both cars" is an overstatement...

rip apart both cars isnt an over statement..you need to remove the factory stereo, dash, climate controls, navi, rear seat cushions, rear seat back, rear deck lid, rear middle console, kick panels, lift up carpet, etc....it would be a huge job!! and this is all for BOTH cars.....also, no one has attempted this before, as far as i know, so it cant really be said for sure if everything will just snap in or if major re-wiring and splicing is required....at the very least you need to look at a HELMS manual and look at some wiring diagrams...this is not like a simple head unit install...this is a major major chore...if i were you, id call the dealership and see what they would charge ya. the GPS antenna is under the read deck lid between the rear speakers....

dude, ive considered doing this myself, but after some research, i realized you are just better off buying an aftermarket navi system..they are better anyways, bigger screen, you can watch DVD play videogames, etc....

I'm going to have to agree with Jimcol711, to do a non-navi to navi conversion is such a huge undertaking, it would be probably be cheaper and easy to just do an aftermarket system...although you may not have that stock look, atleast you won't require more money to play DVD or PS2 on it.
