2001 CLS or 2002 TLS?

Hey guys! I'm new to this board. I've been interested in getting a 2001 CLS w/NAV. I'm thinking about getting it with in the next month. I've been reading up on everyone's post and gaining a lot of info. I'm just curious to see if everyone is satisfied with their cars. I've been a toyota/lexus guy and now I want a fun car to drive. I'm getting a little bit worried hearing about changes happening to the 2002 cls and it's making me even considering a 2002 tls. I love coupes and I feel I should enjoy it while I'm young (21) Do you guys like the feel of the 2 door? Does it feel/drive like a long car? Do you guys think the TLS looks better? Any regrets? Thanks in advance!

The car is long. If you are used to driving a smaller car you will feel the difference. Mods will help in the handling and the ride. Consequently, the car won't feel as big. The coupe is nice. TL-S with the body kit and tinted windows makes a nice cruising car I'd think you'd lose some peformance. However, if you add the CAI and headers you migh not feel the difference. TL-S does look nice....no arguement. Both look nice, CLS prolly has slightly better performance. Tough call. I'm 23 so i went with the coupe

I loved the CLS, until my friend just got his aegean blue tls. I helped him out this weekend with his bodykit and lip spoiler. Here it is

Damn, those are some nice pics!!

Love that car and that blue color, but for me I just can't see driving a 4 door car right now in life. 23 and a coupe is what i want. If you can, wait for the 2002 and see what/if any changes will be made.

my .02 cents

I hate waiting! I hate how fast these car companies are changing the looks of their cars. Something new will always come out and I always get screwed.

Well, this is the same dilemma I'm having. I'm 24, but I'm getting married next year so this is probably my last new car for a little while. I'm heavily leaning towards the TL-S now b/c I'm seeing the need for 4 doors more and more. They're so close in perfomance that it's really just a matter of preference. Regardless of which car I get, I'm getting the Aegean Blue!!

Just make sure you use a “raincoat” every time and you won’t have to worry about needing a car seat in the back anytime soon.

If your worried about them changing the look of the car definately DO NOT get a TLS!!

The TL is going to get a complete redesign in 2003. The CL isnt getting one till '04... though it may receive a face lift next yr.

As for the difference between the two... the TL feels longer... but apart from that... theres really no difference... just go with what looks better to you.

Why is the grill on the TLS soooo BIG?!?

Im growing to like the droopy headlights... but that grill is disgusting.

That grill would be better suited to a large luxury boat like a LS430.

I think the main reason I did not get the TL is because you just see them everywhere. The CL is much less prevalent. Nice to have a car that you don't see everytime you drive to the grocery store

excellent. when u get your ride, we should get together sometime. i personally prefer the coup...more sporty, and that's y i passed on the IS300. plus with a 4-door, the back HAS to b a little taller to accomodate the back doors and seats. with the CL, the lines are a bit more sleek and aerodynamic, yet the back seats are not too much different than the TL's. there's something about sitting low to the ground. my brother's 92 Prelude Si sat real low and felt real good, but my favorite is my father's old '72 Datsun Z. u sit literally 4 inches above ground, and it feels awesome the cl-s is half an inch shorter in length than the tl-s, and the cl-s weighs approx 45-50 pounds less than the tl-s, so u get better performance from the coup. basically, it just comes down to personal preference. i'm a young guy 1 year out of school. i'm not getting married or having kids anytime soon, so my baby works for me

Actually... DUFUS...

Their almost exactly the same length!

CLS Overall length 192.0 in.
TLS Overall Length 192.9 in.

And he asked... how it "felt". So as a owner of both a TL and CL... I told him how it felt.

Thank you

I dig my CL-S in Aegean Blue but that TL-S Aegean Blue looks just as nice with the body kit.

I haven't seen that spoiler before. Is that part of the OEM kit?

It sure would look better on the CL-S than the current one.

That spoiler is from Wings West. The body kit is OEM. Do you happen to have pictures of your Aegean Blue? Do you guys think that the Aegean blue is as hard to keep clean as the nighthawk black?

I believe thats the Wings West lip spoiler.

Since the back didnt change on the '02 TL the lip spoiler from previous TL's fit.

I'm 22 and in the same boat, deciding between a TL-S or a CL-S. I decided on the TL-S because I actually think it looks better. I love the CL, though, so dont get me wrong. I just love the way a sporty 4-door looks. That's coming from a 22 year old.

I plan on getting an Aegean Blue (not a fan of the black wood, though) or a Black w/ parchment TL-S, then adding a bodykit, sways, and springs. Maybe Koni shocks, but we'll see. I think I'm gonna pass on the spoiler (like the look without it... if i dont, i can always get it later) and pass on the navi (my dad has it in his car, just good for looks unless you get lost very often). Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Both are superfat.

Thats not unusual. Just on this board it is.

Im 19 and most of my friends/aquaintences drool over sporty 4-doors like the GS and what not.

I've always driven 4 door cars and I feel that people think that the cars are my parent's especially when it's a nice car. I feel that the coupe seems right for me. I wish that the CL was a little bit shorter in length and Acura needs to do something more with the back. What a hard decision!!!!!!!

Same here. The TL is an awesome car, if the CL-S hadn't come out I'd have one, but I also thought it would look like my mom's car, unless of course, you throw 19s on it, drop it, get the body kit, an exhaust, intake, etc...
So if you plan on modding it, you can definitely make it stand out. It's just personal preference.

When I get the car, I will be so tight w/money. I won't have enough to spend on rims, bodykits, etc. Maybe after a year or so I will. If I get the tls it will be bone stock. If I get the coupe, I will have the spoiler on and it will look more like my car.

As far as the look, I like the front and overall shape of the CL more, but the taillight I like 2002 TL's more instead. For the mechanical parts, they are pretty much identical except that TL-S has a slightly longer wheelbase. If you said you like a coupe, I still recommend you to buy CL-S.

how a spoiler can make all the difference:

when i went to the Rallye Acura dealership last June, they had 2 CL Type-S's, one silver, one red. everything was identicle in that both had mudguards, moonroof visor, and fenderwell trim, but they had 2 differences, the silver had the identicle Type-S rims in crome, and the red had the spoiler. looking at both cars from every possible angle, i just could not stop harping on the spoiler on the red. it made the back look so much better. looking at the silver without the spoiler made the back look a little funny. it reminds me of the old Infiniti J30. my father bought a '93 J30t, and the spoiler singlehandedly made the car, otherwise, the car would look so weird in the back. i personally think the CL looks weird in the back without the spoiler, and the way the spoiler is contoured, the back now looks awesomely sporty, no matter what angle u look at it.
