1st time at the track

I took my CLS 6 speed to the track last night. It was the 1st time for the car and the first time for me as well.

The car is relatively stock the only exceptions are XS headers, rotora slotted rotors, 18x8.5 A spec rims with Kuhmo Ecsta SPT 235's and a drop in K&N filter.

Best time was 14.905 at 94.93mph with a 2.317 60 ft time.

So what do you think, am I leaving any time up there? How much faster could I be with this set up or do I need more juice for a faster time?

Any other Aziners at Street Night @ New England Dragway? How did you do?

Kept wheel spin to a minimum and never smelled my clutch.

I would think a 6 speed with headers would be running 14.4 to 14.5, my stock auto ran 14.9 to 15.1 consistently depending on my start.
I think you can run much faster.

The larger & probably heavier wheels will hurt your short time. You should also be trapping in the upper 90s and low/mid 14s.

Take your car up to about 7100 RPM. Off the line do not launch, take off at near idle and slowly get into throttle. Putting on your stock 17s would probably result in better times.

That 2.3sec 60' looks like your weak point. If you could take a few tenths off of that, you should have much lower ET and higher traps.

Any suspension mods?

Drag Radials FTW!

The harder I tried to take off the worse the times got. I was getting the 14.9's when I kept the RPM's under 2000 for the launch and basically mashing the gas when the clutch was out.

Although the 17's would theoretically help, the fact that they are 215's make a good start nearly impossible. I had never been able to floor the gas in 1st gear with the stock rims/tires without breaking the wheels free, so with that set up I wouldn't be able to go WOT until 1/2 way through 2nd gear.

My big question at this point is shift points. I'm not sure running all the way to redline is beneficial as power trails off at around 6500. But I did shift at redline last night so I have no proof that I would do better shifting at say 6800.

We'll find out in 2 weeks.

BTW, beat my buddies 2000 S4 (probably shouldn't have been able to), but got by my mechanics 1983 VW GTI he ran a 14.4, I was hanging with the Euro Trash last night

Run it up to redline is my feeling. When you upshift into the next gear, you're still at a better point in your power curve. Did you lower the air pressure in your tires at all?

You need to drop that 60' time to a 2.0. It's tough on street tires. Lower the front tire pressure to about 25lbs and increase the rears to about 35. Your trap speed may be slower but you should get a bit more grip, a lower 60' times and, ultimately, a lower 1/4 time.

I got it down to a 14.803, but the 60 ft times still in the 2.3 range. The track was nice early in the night, but as the air temp dropped into the mid 60's, the traction disappeared.

Dag...99accordonhubs ran a 14.4 stock and 14.2 w/ headers and intake i believe...with the right driver his car is a potential 13.7.

i have an auto 4 speed....w/ intake & exhaust i ran a 14.5 and added headers 13.9 untuned...60 ft is about 2.03 on stock tires

work on ur launches and make sure u heat up them tires too

I ran 14.5 @ 96.5 110% bone stock, so you are def leaving some speed on the table. I say get a dyno with your stock rims and get some dr's for the stock 17's

I think what it really comes down to is I value my clutch too much to really get a good launch.
