Damn!

That's a big payout. Hope you can get it back reasonably close to before the wreck.

I saw the pics, and while they looked pretty bad, it didn't look like 16K worth of damage bad.

whats the problem? You got 16k from insurance. Now if your body shop says its 10k then you just pocketed 6k. Also i hope you arent going to a bodyshop that your insurance recomands.

He'd have better luck playing pickup sticks with his buttcheeks. You can't just tell your insurance company to total your car. I tried with my '01 CLS with 13K in damages and they told me to go piss up a rope.

Ouch that's a serious amount of dough.

You'll forget about all this once the car is back.

Yes you can, I did and won...

sounds like alot of $$$ for repairs. What year is the CL/s how many miles.....

4 years ago, I had a Dodge Avenger ES ( yes i know lol ) Only had the car 3 weeks had not even made my 1 st payment, Thanksgiving night (Nov) my ex GF was driving in Miami, she was at a stop light. Guy Behind her fell alseep at the wheel and you know the rest. You could not even open the doors of the car.

I was within $1500 of the car been totaled, I fought and fought Allstate, other driver insurance company adjuster, I would not sign any papers for the car to be repaired, March of the following year the Allstate adjuster got into a fist fight with the owner of where my car was going to be repaired. Even they told the adjuster the car should be totaled, He ended up getting thrown of the lot, the next day Allstate gave up the fight and totaled it ...

Its the only time i have ever made a profit from a car, i bought the car for $18K, got a check for $20K + rental rembursement and other things. And in all this time i never made a payment on the car.

So dont believe what the adjuster tells you, i'd request a 2nd adjuster, or even a independent adjuster. Insurance companies like to tell you the car will be like New BS etc.....

Depends on the damage of course but i'd get the car looked at by someone other than there/his insurance company.....

And my Avenger....well it was repaired after the insurance company bought it, and went to the auctions... go figure...

I just got good with the bodyshop guy who deals with the adjuster. He pushed to have my 330ci totaled.

It pays to be nice to others :o

Keep in mind, you were only 1500 dollars away from a total. It all depends on what your car is worth to the insurance company. My CL-S was valued at 22,500 last July when it got wrecked, a far cry from the 13K worth of damage done to it. I guarantee that Darrin's CLS is valued HIGH by his insurance company for this very reason, to avoid a total.

There is nothing wrong with what the insurance company did. If the insurance company deemed the vehicle repairable, then they are on the hook for any possible supplements in the future. So if that $16k estimate turns into a $18k estimate the insurance still has to pay out the difference

Yes it sure does pay to be nice to others, but when adjusters feeding you BS and the Car repair center told my Insurance and Allstate that they car should be totaled and they would not, thats a diiferent story.....Who you going to believe the Adjusters or a repair center thats been in business for 20yrs fixing cars...

tmk70

Your right, but depends on the year. An CL/s 01 can be bought for anywhere between $15K-18K depending on Miles and condition. They market Value has come down alot on this this car, with the tranny issue and that they no longer make it ..

Not to mention this will show up on the vehicle's carfax when you go to sell it. Try anything and everything for the total.

even if he was assigned 0% blame for the accident, if your insurance company makes a big payout your rates will still rise to cover their loss, plus they can stick you in a "high risk" category. thisis what happened to me when someone hit and totalled my car, they had 100% blame but their insurance couldnt cover the damage to my car. my insurance company still totaled it, and wrote a check for it, but my rates went up because of it. insurance companies dont give free money, they'll rape you any way they can

If it was me with an 01', I would take the money ... not get it fixed ... strip off all the mods and sell and/or put them on my next CL ... sell it on e-bay as a re-builder.

Well, at least you got a check in hand. It's early for me. Mine got nailed on Monday (see: I've had better Mondays...$4,000 damage).

First thing I did was go to a shop that I KNOW does good work: $3693.

Then I went to Allstate who insured the woman who hit me: $2650.

Let the games begin...

If your insurance company practices business like that, I would look elsewhere. Your rates shouldn't increase if you aren't at fault. My company would not surcharge you unless you are greater than 50% at fault in the accident. The only thing that could happen is if you have too many claims in a short period they would consider you too high of a risk and drop you.

car had 25k miles, my guess its worth 22-24k, so 16k is like 75% of the value

Common things are common Chap . You haven't heard someone say "it has just never been the same since the wreck". Fortunatley for me the only major accident I had (flipped my Olds Alero GLS) the car was totalled due to the "frame being bent". Even so, I have known numerous people to say that after an accident the car has never been the same and/or has had nothing but problems since. I don't care how good the shop is, IT IS NOT the factory assembly line, and anything short of having some bumpers replaced or a new door put on, IMO I would fix it (if I had no other choice), and sell it, or if the damage is enough, do everything in my power to get it totalled.
Darrin man, there is a a big difference in what you would like to have done and what you are held to by the insurance Co. Best of luck to you though man.

Chopper is rigt. I had a major accident (9K worth in 1998) and I could tell the car was not the same. And I am no mechanic. The car was fixed at the dealer and things were still wrong like wind noise, loose interior peices, noisy mechanical parts like shocks and muffler, the list could go on and on. Maybe they just did not do a good job but I seriously think the car was just too screwed up to fix.

16K is quite a bit of damage. I would also beg for it to be totaled.

Personally I wouldn't want the car back if it had $16k in damages. I've driven a car that had frame damage repaired, and it wasn
t the same. I'd probably sell it once I got it back

Do you have an 02 , 03 ?

Sounds like someone has told you the car be will be as good as new routine... Alot of it depends on who repairs it, and another factor is how much damage was done to the car itself.

At this point in time you still have options.

After the car is fixed, are you going to want to keep it or sell it. How much you owe on the car right now...maybe you could sell it "as is" and keep the check to pay of your car loan and not come out a loss

If you decide to keep it, just make sure that the repair center is the best you can get. Or ask your Acura dealer to recommend a repair centre for you.

Get the car totalled.

I was in a similar situation where my car was boarder line. The shop said it was totalled and the other insurance company said it wasn't. In the end an independent adjuster was brought in and I went with my own insurance company. Shop totalled the car, independent adjuster totalled it, so my insurance company paid out. This took about 3 months.

Chap, you are a blithering idiot. There is no way possible that any car will ever drive the same and esp one with this kinda damage.
