I saw that video on another forum. People underestimate the S2000 because there are so many shi--y drivers out there behind the wheel. When they are driven right, they are fast. The S2000 in the video does sound awesome......

that was a really good driver in the s2000. i bet this question comes up in the s2k forums, but since i never go there: which is faster given equal drivers, the 04 or the older ones?

A properly driven S2000 (stock) is a high 13 second low 14 second car in the 1/4 mile. From a dig, the car is even with the 350z 6spd which is faster than the G35 6spd.

I know they don't seem fast since they're only a 4cyl engine, but you have to remember the car has 240 peak horsepower and it weighs 600 pounds less than the CL Type S.

If your S2000 was even with your stock CL-S then you weren't driving it right or there was something wrong with it.

In terms of the 00-03 versus 04-05, the 2.2L engine in the 04-05 is faster from a roll generally speaking because of the extra torque, but from a dig the cars are equally fast in the 1/4 mile.

I know the G35 has a reputation for being a "fast car" around here .. but the G35 Coupe 6spd is only a mid-14 second car. The newer G35s with 300hp are actually supposedly slower since they weigh 100 lbs more and they have 20 lb-ft less torque although they have a higher redline. Thats what I heard from the '04 G35 owner that made that video.

Ive raced a stock g35 coupe from about 40-100 and won i tihnk they are a little overrated but they are fast and look very good. I have also raced a 400 rwhp supercharged g35 coupe on the highway and got beat but i expected more from the car with those mods.
I have a cl-s with only intake

Im pretty sure a 6sp cl-s supercharged with headers, exhuast and HBP could beat the supercharged g35 i raced

a properly driven g35c 6 speed will run low 14's if not 13.9 with a good driver

100 lbs more? No
20 lb torq? No, 10 lb to be correct.

04+ S2k is faster than the previous...
and 05 g35c is NOT slower than 03/04.... it is almost identical but slightly faster at high speed.

i raced my friend's 02 s2k and won by 2 car lenght up to 100 mph
and i lost to other my friend's 04 S2k by half a car length up to 80

there is a significant different between 04 and previous.

From a dig or from a roll? ... Like I said, the '04+ S2000s are faster from a roll because of the extra torque, but from a dig they're about equal.

I haven't seen too many '04+ S2000s run any faster than a ~13.8-13.9s 1/4 mile ... but I've seen the rare and I stress RARE (factory freak maybe) '00-03 S2000s run a 13.66 (fastest I've seen) ... and a few 13.7s @ 101mph S2000s. These are STOCK S2Ks I'm talking about, not after adding a Supercharger or something

And your one race experience with S2000s doesn't make it fact that the AP1 (00-03) is faster than the AP2 (04+) ... Trust me, go onto s2ki and make that statement and you'll have the AP1 owners all over you with time slips and other shit to show that the AP1 isn't slower.

I don't know much about the '05 G35C so I was going strictly by what the '04 G35C owner (the one driving) said in the original s2ki thread about this video.

Not so sure that's the S2000's exhaust sound we hear since the revs are nowhere near 9K sounding when the shifts occur. It would seem like there would be more time b/n shifts b/c the S drops some revs at shift points (substantially) before rising again. If that makes any sense . . . .

In the vid, the S2000 is an AP2 (MY04+) which uses the 2.2L engine and has an 8000rpm redline (8200rpm fuel cutoff). The sound you hear I'm almost positive is the S2000 ... It sounds very similar to my own S2000 (engine side noise wise at least).

By the way, I checked the stats on the '05 versus '04 G35 Coupe.

oonowindoo, you're right about the torque, its only 10 ft-lbs, my mistake. However, the weight isn't 100 lbs difference but its not 0 either... 3512 lbs curb weight to 3435 lbs curb weight for the '05 versus '04. For the sake of accuracy, the '05 weighs 77 lbs more than the '04. Again, I was just basing it off what the '04 G35 coupe owner said so I don't really know any stats on the cars for 1/4 mile times or whatever ...

I also was wrong to say its a mid-14 second car, seems the majority of times I've found put the G35 Coupe 6spd at a low 14 second car (~14.2 was the most common) ... The S2000 seems to still be generally speaking faster, although its probably a driver's race on the street.

i agree with you that an s2000 should beat the g35, but i think the outcome would be slightly different if the s2000 was stock(i know that the s2000 dosent get much out of thoses mods). also the g35 has an extra passenger in this race.

Oh yeah, the AP2 definitely feels faster. It starts pulling pretty hard from about 3000rpms up while the AP1 doesn't really feel like its going anywhere until you hit VTEC. But from a dig, the AP1 can launch high enough that it'll get the car into VTEC pretty quick and after that all your shifts should be right into VTEC range. Thats what I mean though ... from a dig when the AP1 is launched, its going to be just as fast as the AP2 ... but from a roll, especially if the AP1 isn't quite at VTEC yet, the AP2 has the advantage.
