03 Hole Filler mod...

So some people have made it an intake hole
Other have painted them
And yet others (including me for a while) swapped them out for the 2001/2 roadlamps.

Well I got tired of the roadlamps and drilled 82 3mm holes into both of them (thats 41 each) and put in white LED's

This is what i got:

Off:

On:

they are evenly spaced, its just that I held the camera more to the right side of the car [left side in pic]than the left. Not only so, iPhone pics are meh sometimes.

Oh and they are switched so that I can turn them off when I want to.

The other thing that suprised me was that they match the 10,000k bulbs in my headlights perfectly.

So as always, go ahead and hate. Seems thats all I get.

I like it and it looks much better in person than in these pics.

Well...as you know.

Roadlamps never did anything anyways.

Props for doing something different and if you like them then

I took the lettering off.. Today actually.
Just wanted something different, again.

Either way, roadlamps didnt do anything as was stated and known, however to counter with this these actually give off a bit of light (perfect for when you want to roll up to your house at night without shining your headlights into windows). Just enough to light up about 4-5 feet in front.

and yes, the LED in the left "lamp" died on me... Oh well. I'll see if I can rip it out and replace it.

Thing I love about them is that you cannot see them when they are off. They are hidden in the "mesh" at the rear.

LEDs are the new thing.

I like where this idea is going. I've actually tried to figure out where to shove LEDs onto my front end now that the LED Audi craze is coming to town. I think a nicely laid cluster of LEDs inside the road lamps would look nice. Just been too busy with other stuff to experiment. But I like where this is going.

I'd love to see some really upclose shots of what you did.

I'll take better pics of them later on today.. I'll see how close and clear I can get the pic..

LED's are waterproof. They are not like regular thin glass filamant bulbs. The only part that could cause a problem is the connections on the back. However, I hot glued the whole the whole thing so that it's sealed. They don't get hot either.

I have driven with them on during rain, fog, snow already and everything is fine with them. The one that burned out probably did so due to excessive heat on the LED when soldering it. It should only take 10 min to fix once I get around to it.

The back & wiring is what I was talking about. Hopefully the contacts don't rust out.

no resistors... they got too hot. soldered in sequence. 14 volts divided between 4 LED's came out to be safe. There was a 3.3-3.6 volt drop per LED

Looks good to me. We need some night shots with a decent camera. I need to find something like that but I want them to project more like a fog light.

I doubt with the amount of light being restricted that they could be that bright...looks more to be an ambient effect.

You can't get the road lamps to the point of being a fog light because they are plastic...can't support the wattage needed to get there.

So...I wouldn't worry too much about that.

you can still run a resistor to be safe, imo u should or they will burn out.

Just so u know.
u know u can get a power supply circuit or build one that will deliver about 2.5- 3.2 v frm a 12n input and connect the leds in parallel.
They would last longer and produce less heat

looks pretty good, although i agree with Lippstuh, you may as well run a resistor to make sure they don't die
