03 CLS 6M vs. 00 GTI 1.8t
so...after the mustang race, my brother and I are on the phone, and he says...yo bro...lets see if I can keep up with you....so we slow down to about 45 mph...get right next to one another, and i go.."i'm in third, ya ready?" he says "yessir"
"1....2....3!"
and we gun it...
he stays with me until about 90 which was impressive for that little 4banger...but at 90, i just dusted him, I mean, it was like...bad..one car length two car lengths, and i'm gone...
so for those of you wondering how our cars do against a GTI, we dust em...
but none the less...he kept up till 90...
we're gonna try it from a standstill and I'll let you guys know what happens...
keep driving!

Is your brothers GOLF/GTI chipped. I ran with a friend of mines cl s 2002 from 80 to 125 and we were side by side...we did this quite a few times and neither one of use gained on each other...he's actually on these boards...and im chipped.
If your brothers not chipped, he should get chipped and see how his car does with yours...its really a big difference...
One thing that is different is that yours is a manual and my friends was the tiptronic...but do you think that would make a huge difference?

I dunno about the manual vs. the tiptronic, imo, all the manumatics I've ever driven could never be compared to driving a true manual, they just don't switch gears fast enough of the fly, but i'm not sure about the VW one, because i've never tried it...
now the CHIP, makes a HUGE difference especially in the 1.8t, however, he has not chipped it yet, I'm trying to convince him too...my VW was chipped and it was a slight difference but I hear in the 1.8t...it is rediculous...

for the last couple of months ive been readin this and honda accord forum to see how the cars perform in sanctioned racing or any type of racing... stock for stock that is pretty amazin...until i was chipped i prolly woulda gotten burned badly....the chip is truly amazin...tell your brother to definately get it.
to clarify...my car was the manual and my friends car was the manumatic....i guess it makes some difference when racing.
Thank you!

45 and 3rd i dont have a manual but second for me goes all the way to 73 or so...i would think even with the additional gear you might have tried that from 2nd and started pulling right away
but a chip away from alot better race...for the other guy...

does the automatic really have that tall of a second gear?
typeR do you even have a CL or is that an integra typeR your name is referring to?
I was wishing my second was quicker...

awesome...what do you think about the headers?
is it worth it??
wait...did I hear that the headers do not fit the 6-speeds?
if that's true...that blows...

break 13s eh? I've had my car since May 17, 2002, and I have over 10,000 miles on it, I hate the stock tires because they are hard as hell to get a good launch, you just burn out...you obviously recommend the toyos....anything else out there that does the job?

are those the 555Rs?
wicked tires...however I can't have tires that only last 15,000 miles on my car, i'd spend a fortune...
I'd better wear these pilots down for another 20g miles and then i'll decide what will happen...
but i was looking at those S-03s....i think my pop's S2000 has S-03s on it, and they rock...

I remember my last car, I took a drill with one of those Big Cirlce Cut 2.5" drill bits, and I drilled about 4 holes out from the bottom half of my air box in the GTI. Added a K&N drop in filter, and the roar was excellent, sounded just like a CAI, however, I don't know how good that could be for your engine...but it sounded nice...

the funny thing is the swisscheese airbox mod is actually still around on teh GTI...and most people claim its more of any increase than the CAI...There was a guy on our forums that actually ran some dynos and it definately proved results...but i dont remember the exact numbers....the swisscheese airbox is actually a very good idea and works very well...i guess its worth a try instead of spending the couple hundred on a CAI

I bet you walked him when your vtec kicked in? In a real life scenario where you would downshift to 2nd, the gti would have done no worse in reverse.
I had a Passat 1.8t before this car and yes, the chips are insane. But even with a chip and a 3k04, you still don't push as much as our cars.

Good to know Kalin...
we always used to love th 1.8t, just because of the tunability of the engine...
however I love this 3.2-S...I mean...there's not much tuning you can do to it....but for an everyday, it is all I ever wanted!!!

Forced induction engines are fun stuff.. but more finicky. Want a really tune-able engine? The Mistu 4G63. Oh what a platform.
AFA 1.8t, the Neuspeed chips are inexpensive, but GIAC give you the power.

yea either the giac and apr ones are with the power. the neuspeed is a cautitious chip. i think the cl type s 6spd is a way more advantage against the 5 sp auto....the auto really limits the car and that is why a chipped gti can prolly hang with an auto...the manual would beat the gti....i kno that the chipped gti can hang wit the auto becuz my friend has one and from 80-120 we were even....

I know a guy with a HOOKED up new GTi(like a 2001 or 2002) with VR6 motor in it with that performance chip you guys are talking about and he had a larger custom turbo put on. this guy(I know this is hard to believe but I wouldn't have believed it if i didn't see it) with a newer body style MUSTANG COBRA(I think it's something like a 99 or 00) they lined up. and I knew the Gti was pretty fast(like hang with a V-6 Mustang) and I talked with my friend I said dude that Cobra is going to kill you man. (cause those are Supercharged V-8s out the factory)(the Cobra was running stock) he said lets run to see how the Gti does I said okay man. I thought okay it's his car he can what he wants.
so they took off and the Cobra pulled on him out the hole (like i figured cause the Cobra has MAD torque) then you hear his Turbo "spool" out and you see him gaining on him AND HE BEAT HIM. my jaw was almost on the pavement. I was like HOLY
SH!T.but it was close. the guy in the Cobra was Ticked cause my friend didn't have as much in his ride and he got beat by it )
I'd be Careful pulling up on a VR6 GTi if i had a V-6 Accord or CL-S. they can be sleepers.
