'03 CL TypeS Mods

Just picked up what I consider my first real car -- before that were handmedowns or econ cars. Guys at work already got me hooked on modding w/ their Civic Sis and such. ... I'm pouring through these forums and Inet looking everywhere for aftermarket performance parts to get started.

Hmmm... not much out there yet. Comptech, yeah, but that's to be expected. Anyone know of a comprehensive list of mods available to date?

I did write Injet about their CAI, apparently they've just finished up the design--hopefully they write back w/ when we can expect em.

Thanks for all the awesome information and great reads.
Damn the bug, this is going to get interesting...

Check out the FAQ link in my signature. Chod's FAQ is a great primer for facts and mods about our car. Its a little old, but most of the stuff is still accurate.

The only significant additions I can think of off hand is the OBX headers (non-CARB certified but quite a bit cheaper then Comptech) and the lack of a dedicated CAI for the 2003 Manual.

check my sig for a small list of mods that I've done. Pictures are available on my site (also in sig)

If you meant to say Injen CAI, they already make one. But if you have a six speed you might need to do a little custom work to get the sucker to fit near the intake manifold. I guess Injen didn't realize that Acura made some changes length of the intake manifold in the six speed. I suggest asking Shawn S about what he did.

Yeah, I did read the FAQ (some mods are already on the to-do list)... I'm primarily interested in performance mods, which unfortunately don't seem to be very available for the 2003 Type S 6sd.

Comptech seems to have been the first mods for the 2003 to hit the market... but I think we all get most value in an open market with fair competition. Right now seems Comptech has little competition for our cars.

I did mean Injen <~~~ n00b. My only excuse is it was late when I posted that.

Agreed, Injen already has a CAI for the CL S, but not for the 2003. I wrote Paul at Injen about letting them use my car for prototyping and he replied they just finished up a new CAI for the 2003 CL S 6 spd... Part #RD 1481. No word as to when it will be available (hoping soon).

I respect all you guys out there who are doin what you can with parts out there not built for '03 cars. Being new to this, my only concern is regarding the performance gains we can expect from on-specific parts. Like the CAI, you can only hope to get a few whp. But according to most what I've read, the hp increase from 2002 to 2003 was largely due to factory improvements of the intake and exhaust systems. Can we still expect to get those precious increases out of something that's already beefier than a previous stock? Yeah, the aluminum will help, but as much?

And it was Stupidity of Aucra not to give a free flow headers (Comptech/OBX headers like design) and claims 300HP CL-S...

And they could have added a 1 grand to the price and still make more money...

If they think the Auto can not take it, they could have give it to the CLS 6-speed.

Acura are you listening....

I'm new, too...

Hey, welcome. I'm new, too!

I asked everyone on here a couple of days ago to rank the mods for my 2001 CL-S bang-for-buck wanting some suspension and engine upgrades in the sub-$2000 category, and with a lot of help from everyone here, I've got everything rolling along real nice-like.

Check out my profile for the choices I found best for me.

Later,
Dan

chikai, my new tires are everything i wanted in an upgrade.

seriously, they're awesome. they grip so much better than the crap they put on stock, look a lot better, and ride really smooth. the price on tirerack is awesome for what you get, too.

Okay, I feel really stupid about asking this question here, but already wrong on couple accounts and a long-time friend and ex-racecar driver swears by em...

Has anyone had any experience with the twisters that fit into the intake?

http://www.tornadoair.com

Hard to believe that kind of increase for $70.00... I'd like to see a Dyno w/ and w/o.

All disinterested 3rd party info I have seen says the tornado is junk. Money wasted.
