03' CL-S 6Spd vs. 03' Maxima 6Spd
I know this is a dumb question, but I just have to ask because I need to make this decision pretty soon and I would like to know what other people think...
stock for stock.. which one is faster?
0-60 times?
0-100 times?
now how about Headers/Intake on the CL-S vs. Exhaust/Intake on the Maxima?
I own both 1999 TL and Maxima (5spd).. and like the Acura quality better.. I also like the new CL-S cabin alot! (test drove a few days ago).. but 03' / '02 6spd maximas are really hard to find now, because nissan just had a 2,000 rebate on them and 0.4% finansing.. so most of them are gone off the lot.. so i didn't get to check the max out..
What do you guys think?
Thanks

Guys...read what he asked...
He said 03 Maxima...not the new 04...
Maxima is a good car...easily modded to tear shit up. There is no easy answer young grasshopper...2 totally diff cars. Either would be an excellent choice.

I have a 6-spd cls and my brother has a automatic 02 maxima and i can walk him after about 45mph the cl is a lot nicer car and quiter with road noise and handles a lot better, but he has had his in the shop about 25 times for random crap going bad, so i don't know how reliable they are, he says if he had it do over again he would have bought a tl-s or G-35

My 98 SE was no dog...HKS intake & upgraded exhaust...
Car ran like tits. Never had any problems. Had a 97 SE, & 2 98 SE's. Oil, brakes & new tires was the only thing I ever did.

thanks for the comments guys..
Yea, i would get te G35, but the 6spd one has to have the brembo package.. which is obo 38,000
big difference.. for 35 i can get a 2001 M3.. lol
dealer wanted $720 for the rear wing with installation.. can I get a replica somewhere else? does the replica come with the break light?

My brother has a 03TL-S and i got a 03 6spd CL-S and we both kicked an 6spd 03maxima's ass. CL-S won by 3 cars and TL-S won by 1-2 car lengths. ACURA wins

I don't think Maximas are the dogs you guys seem to think(wish) they are... This would be the first I've ever heard of a Max laying down for an Acura beating... much less 2 at the same time...

launching the Max 6-spd is a lot harder than launching the auto CL-S or auto TL-S... those blowtenza's required some precision launching .. it's hard. From a roll, the 6-spd has it all the way more times out of 10 than the auto Type S.. to those who don't believe, go run 10 runs... 6-spd max vs. auto Type S... doesn't matter if it's a CL-S or a TL-S .. the max will take the majority every set of 10 runs.. (both cars assumed having GOOD drivers... )
I was deluded into thinking the TL-S was this ridiculously fast car and that all these people were "killing" all these other, more powerful cars (per the "kills" forum) .. but that's all a crock of sh-t more often than not ... I learned from experience.

Besides.. just look at the dyno's of 6-spd Maxima's .. they're clearly putting down more hp/torque than the auto CL-S .. and they have the blessing of 6 short gears and a nice relatively flat torque curve

A 6 speed CL-S vs. a 6 speed Maxima is a driver's race. They really run nearly identical times stock and modded. There are guys on Maxima.org with the basic mods running 13's. A CL-S auto vs. an auto 02+ Maxima is also a drivers race. The Maxima will definitely get the jump off the line due to their advantage of nearly 30 lb wtq.
I raced my gf's 2002 SE maxima auto in my CL-S 6 speed from a 60-70mph roll and I did beat her. However, I did not at all slaughter her, and she probably should have downshifted into 2nd, not 3rd.
The VQ35 is a very excellent engine, and should not be taken lightly. Hell, before I bought my CL I wanted a 5 speed Altima so I know how they compare.

I wasn't in the car with her, and I figured if it was low enough it would drop another gear. Unfortunately it didn't so it wasn't a very fair race. I just did the whole gear speed calculations last night and found out how tall the Maxima automatic is geared.

I agree w/ the realistic enthusiasts in this thread.. it's a driver's race fo sho .. Brutha's.. i own both the 2k3 auto SE max and the TL-S .. i think i would know ..
Plus a while ago I posted a story in the "racing" forum about how I ran a CL-S from a dead stop in my 2k3 Max .. CL-S couldn't shake me.. I was always 1/2 car ahead to 80 or whatever it was... The CL-S just "sounded" faster...

bro, on the highway .. it comes down to who's a crazier son of a bitch ..
I'll give up any win to a maxima on the highway ... i don't really care about 80mph+ performance, personally .. but power to you Nascar drivers

I would avoid the maxima at all costs for one reason. Corrosion.
All I do for a living is apply and test liquid and powder coatings to controlled, measured thicknesses and corrosion test them three different ways. In my company, we use 15% red corrosion as the "fail" criteria point for coatings on fastener heads. I am currently testing nissan door handle hardware (springs, plates, etc) for 240 hours (10 days, which is not very long at all) in salt spray and would you believe this?: Nissan considers the part acceptable if there is less than NINETY PERCENT RED RUST on the hardware after 240 hours. Sad, but true.
Look at any Nissan/Datsun that is about five years old or older. Most (not all, it depends a lot on the owner) will either be showing signs of corrosion creeping in ranging to the car disintegrating. The most famous example I can think of is the Datsun 240Z. They just dissolved right before your eyes.
Nissan uses a lot of yellow chromate or yellow dichromate for corrosion control, what is on our CL calipers, and it is really pretty good, as long as you do not scratch it. The door handle springs I am testing are yellow chromated, but this is a small coil spring where the coils actually rub against each other, and the chromate abrades itself off very quickly. Now I am testing these springs in a static situation (non moving) and after 5 days I have about 10 percent red corrosion. After corrosion starts, it accellerates. I am guessing 50 to 70% red corrosion at the end of the test.
Now consider this how many times a day do you use that door handle to get in the car? Two? (minimum), Ten? These springs are gonna have a short life.
The Nissan engineers come out to take digicam pictures every two days, and I talk to them about the benefits of sacrificial zinc coatings (galvinization, or hot dipped zinc), and they immediately start jabbering about high cost, expense, etc. Clueless. Truely clueless.
With paints (organic protection) and platings (inorganic protection), it really matters WHAT you use and HOW THICK it is.
All car manufacturers, except the cheap ass ones (Kia, Suzuki, etc) have made great strides in corrosion control, but among the majors Nissan has improved also, but they are still sucking hind titty. In fact, Nissan has probably improved the most among the majors, but you gotta factor in that they were so bad to start with there is no place to go but up.
I truely do not and did not intend to offend any nissan owners here, but I do this for a living and I cannot disregard what I see.
Before 1995, when Nissan started a corrosion control campaign, I truely believed that Nissan/Datsun products were actually made out of compressed rust!

i was gonna get the new maxima before i got my car....but i'm gonna be honest i just liked the CL-S better. A friend of mine has 2k2 6spd max and ran a 14.7 bone stock....which is the same as i got my car bone stock. he now has intake and exhaust and hit a 14.4....which is the same thing i did with intake and exhaust. With the Max 6spd and the CLS 6spd its a drivers race

Thanks guys.. I didn't mean to start an argument, just wanted to know what I was going into based on your experience..
Even if Maxima (03 and below, i'd never get an 04, no offense to anyone else) is faster, i'd still get the CLS.. because I have a Max now (5spd) and I'd want something different.. plus like someone mentioned here, it's the quality too.

No argument started
I don't know where you get quality as an issue...
I've got 2 CLs's & I've had 3 Maximas... Hands down, Maxima was built better. Wait until you get 15 or 20K miles on the CLS...the squeaks will drive you fuckin nuts. Just do a search for "squeaks/rattles, etc" in this forum & you'll see what I mean. I never had that problem with the Nissan(and I drove the PISS out of them :P).
But,,,Cls is still a very nice car(4 yr warranty, plenty of power, etc). It sounds like you've already made your mind up anyhow, so Good Luck with your purchase.
