03" Accord 5sp auto 0-60 in 6.57 secs!

Posted by DVTURK on www.accordv6.com

http://www.v6accord.com/forums/showt...threadid=11388

Motor Trend's 2003 Accord Sedan Track Results
From Sept. issue pg 70..check out these numbers for the 5-speed automatic:

0-60-6.57 seconds
1/4 mile: 14.98 @94.95 mph
curb weight: 3,360

These numbers are comprable to the Nissan Altima 240HP automatic which boasts 1/2 liter more engine and 34Ibs more torque:

Motor trend results for Altima auto:

0-60: 6.6 seconds
1/4 mile: 15.0 @93.8 mph

The new Accord is just as fast MINUS all the Altima torque steer.

On pg. 69 they highlight the new 2003 Accord Coupe which has the 6-speed manual tranny and is lighter. They project a 0-60 time to break into the high 5s....damn talk about a fast stock Accord

Stevtec's simulation numbers are almost right on. I would like to see a simulated peformance on the 03 Coupe 6-speed with Comptech's blower thrown on it

Great so now they are making an even faster car for all the high traffic street racing youngsters! I mean I am young too, but it seems like every year that goes by, the new generation drivers are getting worse and worse. Just my .02 from what I notice here in SoCal.

Yeah I agree with mantis though, new cars are almost always going to be better than previous year models.

No need to cry girls, the CL is still different than the accord albeit not by much and a bit faster, however not by much.
Honda execs are smart enough not to eat into TL/CL sales, although CL sales are a joke. So like I always said: CL is a just a nicer Accord and its truer now than ever . I am sure we'll live with it and move on.

I really don't understand what's with all the Accord bashing lately. Is it because it has the power now and all the new goodies? You guys should be happy that at least Honda is stepping up to nissan's playing field. That way Acura will soon follow. If the CL/CL-S is not discontinue, then I am pretty sure Acura will have to bump up the hp and add all the new goodies in too. Remember every new generation of cars will have the latest gadgets so just be happy with what you bought. Speaking of which, I can't wait for the new TL to come out.

Hell, take me for example. How do you think I would feel if I lost to a new accord in a race? Thank god my 99 TL is modded!

The 6 speed Accord is definately going to be faster than a stock automatic CLS. Plus, when you slap some headers/intake and exhaust on there it will probably beat us even worse.

I don't understand why everyone is so surprised by the performance of the Accord. The new Altima raised the bar and Honda had to follow. A 240hp car should get those numbers anyway.

Besides it is the same for the G35 and the CLS (6 spd). Both will do 0-60 in 5.9-6.0 sec. Do you think that G35 owners look at the Altima and regret buying the G35?

One thing 03 Accord has 3360 and only 215 lbt/240 HP.
CLS is only 100lb more and has 232lbft and 260HP So, why the Accord is faster than the CLS is beyond me.

I do not care I hit 14.6s at 96MPH. With the UR Pulleys I am looking into 14.2-.4.4s!

I'm feeling a lot of love from some Acura owners towards their fellow Honda brethern.

For the same reason's an Infiniti shopper wouldn't purchase an Altima over a G35, an Acura shopper wouldn't purchase an Accord over a TL-S or CL-S.

if the accord gets 240hp, that means the new tl-p will get 265 about? So the TL-S will be 300hp??? hehe

current accord - 200hp new accord - 240hp
current CL/TL-P - 225hp new CL(if any)TL-P - 265hp
current CLS/TLS - 260 hp new CLS/TL-S - 300hp

I find those times hard to believe. Remember Motor Trend also got low 6s and low 14s for the RSX as well. Everyone knows that the RSX is a low 15 second car stock.

THat is pretty fast! THing is, the new Accord now looks like total crap, so I'd drive it fast so I could make it inside my garage, therefore no one sees me.

Man, I've been waiting for someone to say that for the last couple of weeks, ever since this site became Accord.com. Vinny, you took the words right out of my mouth.

And I gotta agree with 1SICKLEX; the car is just plain old ugly. I don't care if it runs 0-60 in 5.5 secs and breaks 14s in the quarter. It's still an ACCORD! It's a family sedan, not a sports car. I'm not bashing the Accord (well, maybe I am), I just appreciate it for what it is.

AMEN!

I'm glad I've got nitrous!

I've spent the past week or so being really bummed out that someone can go into their local Honda dealer and purchase an Accord that will blow my doors off (stock)!

This really got me to think about selling the CL and getting something else.

But, something happened to me this evening, I realized that I was driving an ACURA CL!

Enough said! This car is MORE than I thought I've ever be able to afford.

I love my CL!

[Just might have to buy the new Accord coupe for the wife!]

I thought this was what a TL-S was

I'll bet the new accord will easily out-handle our boat-like cl-s.
Yes, you can change the suspension, but the CL still has that large car feel. The smaller, lower, accord coupe will definitely be more nimble.

For the differences though, the CL/TL is extremely close to the Accord, especially for the interior controls. Where as the G35 coupe has no resemblence at all to the Altima.

I consider the TL-S a sports sedan, and the Accord a family sedan. The extra money spent on a TL-S over an Accord is worth it based on looks alone.

the accord is still ugly and its dash and radio area is as cheesy as the camry and altima and civic. the outside is cool and i bet a kit on it would make it look nice, but to me it still looks like a cougar and a rsx had sex.

Remember that the Altima is not a coupe! If you look at the Altima and the G35 sedan, there are plenty of resemblances - especially the 3.5L engine which is as close in performance as the the new Accord and CLS engines (only 20hp difference). Even on the track we are talking about .5sec diff in 0-60 acceleration for both manufacturers.

But you are right about the G35 coupe - it is beautiful and as far as style is concerned, it is in a class of its own - for now.

sorry your wrong...some of rsx owners pull low 15's but yet quite few are getting 14.8's and and 14.9's stock.

i realy dont like the new accord sedans but the coupes are downright hot....they look like baby CL500's from the back lol. you guys have to face it that this car is here to stay and its right on your asses but look at the up side of things. the accord is going to be using a beefed up version of the V6 they used in the last generation accord which just so happens to be almost the identical motor that the CL and TL type S use. accord and CL use the same motor its just that it was bored out a bit for the CL and the CL got a more agressive cam and diffrent ecu. the motor in the CL is just a modded accord motor in reality and it looks like this accord is going to be a winner in the performance crowd so the aftermarket support will be huge....and the best part is that what works on their motor works on yours too, no longer will you have such limited aftermarkets as you do now.

Those numbers are a little far out of reach. it said 5 spd AUTO! not manual

hmm

the cl-s has 20more hp, atleast 15lb more torque yet it produces worse times? hmm may be they put some real tires on the new accord or the new i-vtec has that much of an improvement or may be they did it right w/ the gear ratios this time around. we'll see.

im pretty damn sure the top model accord is going to be using a beefed up version of the vtec v6 they had in the last generation accord. its the lower model accords that are going to be using the 2.4L I4 i-vtec motors like the one in the crv.

The new Accord doesn't use i-VTEC, but it has been upgraded from a 2 rocker to 3 rocker VTEC system. (At least according to Hondanews.com)
