01 CLS v Solstice Turbo

It's 5:15am and making a left on to Commercial headed to the Sawgrass Expressway there is a banana yellow Solstice convertible in front. It's the turbo model so I was hoping he would be looking for an engagement. Some horseplay back and forth and we nail it at the Nob Hill intersection. He has me by a car as the CL passing gear hardly ever kicks in right. Upon cycling into the vtec I pull and pass him and continue to pull away right up to the Sawgrass exit.

Looking up the road tests on the Solstice I was suprised that it is good for a 14.1 to 14.4 in the quarter. My Cls has all the go fast stuff (headers, intake, pullies, thermoblock spacers and throttle body bypass) and these cars shine from 30 to 100 so I was not suprised at the kill but I was suprised at the decisiveness of the win.

The Solstice is a very sharp looking car.

Nice kill. Although I have to tell you that you don't need mods to beat a Solstice. I beat one on the top end a couple years ago leaving Tampa on my way to St. Petersburg.

the solstice gxp 2.0 LNF you will need mods to beat, the regular 2.4 LE5 solstice are pretty slow. Watch out for one with the GM stage kit, they can hit low 13's easy on street tires with them.

I raced a Sky Red line Stock, same as a Soltice turbo, and I got murdered. He put like like 15 cars on me from i think around 60 up to about 110. This was at 5000 ft so his turbo would have the advantage.

How did you know he was a turbo?

There were no discernable markings on the rear of the car but if it had been a naturally aspirated model I would have slingshotted past it like I do with the RX8's.

The Road test I reviewed peg the na Solstice at 15.6 in the quarter. Turbo's go from 13.8 to 14.4. As mentioned in my initial narrative the CLS shines from 30 to 100 against cars that have equal or superior quarter mile times. When I used to race my wifes new G35 coupe against my unmodded Cl I would pass her with no problem from 20 mph on. From a standing start though the G would beat the CL due to it's superior torque. I now have all the goodies on my Acura and have run a 14.1 in the quarter

If you don't have all the go fast enhancements on your car that would make a difference or maybe you just went against one that was especially quick or had a boost upgrade.
