***custom Made Diamond Plate Floor Mats***

Just wanted to know if anyone would be interested in a set of custom made floor mats for their CLS. The set would include the two fronts for now and if enough interest is shown, I will start making the rear ones also. The material I am using is 1/8" thick diamond plate cut to the exact specs of the original CL mats. I am also getting "3.2 CL" engraved in so that it exactly matches the stock floor mats. I have full access to a metal fabrication shop with an NC machine for the engraving. All in all, the ones I just made today look very clean and professionally done.

I haven't yet had the lettering engraved in yet on my own set, (will happen sometime this week) but when I do, I will post up some pics so you can have a look at the quality. But I just wanted to know how many people would be interested. Either reply to this post or send me a PM.

PS: for some reason, I still cannot send PM's so maybe the best bet is to just reply to this thread.

OK...give me a second and I will post up the pics of what I have so far. Like I said, it still needs to be engraved and the passenger one needs to be bent

ok...so that is all the pics i think i am prepared to take in one evening...LOL

Upon further inspection of the pics, I see that I can extend the material further towards the door sill (where the cas cap release is), and also not notch out the part directly under the gas petal. This is my first prototype so I still have plenty of time to modify it to suit the needs of anyone. I just thought I would stick to the template of the stock mats but I see that I can improve upon them.

Unless of course you like them as is shown above. The engraving can also be modified to suit your tastes (within reason) because the more complex the engraving, the higher the charge of course.

But please give me some feedback...both positive and negative so that I can impove the design.

Nicely done. But the only thing I'd recommend doing, would have some sort of rubber piping go around the perimiter of the "mats" to avoid cutting the carpet. I had a set of these for my old car, and the rubber piping was a great idea. I'd be interested in getting a set.

If there is going to be any selling of these new products to AZine members you have to get clearance through the AZine staff first. If you happen to start selling behind our backs you will be banned instantly, and we'll email you why.

PM "astro" for more details about being an Official AZine Vendor before selling.

EDIT: BTW, good looking product you got there.

Sorry BigLizard....wasn't my intention to go behind anyones back...just must have missed that in the rules. I will of course get approval first. My only intention with this thread was to find out interest....I am not selling at this point in time

you can't pm because you are a very new user, post up a new, but different email account so members can email you.

I know you weren't going to sell anything now, I just wanted to let you know.

Thats the kind of feedback i was hoping for...that is a great idea. Mind you, I took an extra 30 mins to go around the edges with a grinder to take out any sharp edgest, and if you look closely at one of the close up pics, I even went to the trouble of rounding over the edges and corners. But your idea will def add that extra pro touch to it.

i think it would definatly look nice with race pedals.
(not mine just a quick search to find an example)
keep up the good work, im sure with a few small tweaks they'll be looking even better. do you have a price range in mind with what it'll cost and how much extra for custom engraving?

The engraving I will have to find out since I am only just learning how to use the NC machine. I am a mechanical engineer and am learing how to use it on my own time on the weekends. I see that the average selling price for a set of these is going for around $130 to $150, but that is of course without engraving.

The guy actually doing the engraving said it would be very cheap if it is kept simple...that's why I opted for just "3.2 CL". I guess even "type S" would be just as easy. If enough interest is shown, and everyone agrees on one specific engraving, then the price would come down even further.

Overall, I want to keep the price around $150 (not more for sure). That will include the two front matts, the engraving, and even the rubber moulding around the perimeter. Not to mention the "tweaks" or improvements I mentioned earlier about extending the one side to come closer to the door sill, and NOT notchin out under the gas petal.

I am doing another set today in brushed aluminum so that it matches the interior trim. Think that will look even better than the diamond plate. Anyhow, I know this is not something for everyone, and there really is no point in having them, but to me, it looks kinda cool.
