$515 quote for spring install

I wanted to repost this as a more direct question. Thanks to those folks who helped me out already... Maybe I can get some more opinions this way. I'm in Minnesota and just called a local shop who said $515 for a spring install. Reason being they said, was because the book says so many hours for the install. He said just the rear, each one was about 2 hours...

The Acura-CL mod listing say's it's an easy job to do? What did everyone else pay to have their springs installed?

Anyone is Minnesota?

I didn't have springs put in my car, but I can tell you right now that's a big f'in rip OFF!!! I seem to recall $150 as being said as a fair install quote.

I called 3 different places, I got prices ranging from $200-550 so I would look around!

I was able to do mine in under three hours. Had I used a decent spring compressor it would have been done in about two hours. So that price is from a shop who is certainly proud of their work.

With proper tools a car could easily be done in two hours. But take three as an average and even at a premium dealer rate of $80/hour you are at $240. At a lower priced shop you might be able to get it done for $150 - $200.

Heck, if you were in Atlanta I'd put them on for a case of Michelob.

That's a rip! I paid $400 for my Eibach Pro-Kit springs installed. Seeing that the Pro-Kit runs for around $200...installation was $200 which I find fair.

I haven't put springs on my ride, but I seem to remember others saying $150.00 to $200.00 to have a shop do them. An added cost would be if they did the alignment.

Had Pleasonton Acura (located in CA) install the springs. Here's what it cost me:

------------------------- Parts -------Labor----------------Total
CT Springs------------$ 270--------$ 360--------------$ 630
4 wheel alignment-----------------$ 145--------------$ 145

Total installation cost me $ 775. I really recommend getting the 4 wheel alignment. Great thing about this, the warranty hasn't been nullified. Also, I didn't need the camber kit with CT springs.

PAA's website lists $255 as their labor rate for Spring install. I'd use that as a barometer, but know that this is an Acura dealership which happens to be somewhat more catering towards customers/enthusiasts whom desire to have their cars modded .... or else they are smart enough to realize a money maker when they see it.

My dealer mod install prices benchmark is Park Avenue Acura. Click on their Comptech link from their main page http://www.parkaveacura.com

They charge $255 for the install and $79 for the 4 wheel alignment. They charge $299 for the Comptech springs (average price too).

From what I can tell they calculate their charge from an hourly rate and a fair estimate of install time. I think their prices are fair, but they are more expensive then most ricer aftermarket shops would charge. Of course with the price you get Jens to do it (lots of Acura mod experience) and the warranty backing of an Acura dealership.

Input based on local dealer (Maryland) trying to charge hourly shop rates based on what COMPTECH website says average install (hours) shoud be - compared to what I have posted a couple of times before on how much PAA charged for (Jens) installed Sways/Front Springs/ICEBOX in approximate 2 1/2 hours for - including 4wheel alignment - $20 more than what aforementioned dealer wanted for Sway install alone! Like I said ... either they are true enthusiasts themselves, or know how to make a decent profit and provide customer satisfaction.

I had mine done at the dealer here in town. They are normally $75/hr but they only charge $55 and hour for Comptech parts as they are trying to really market some upgrades. Anyway, the install was 6 hours or $330 plus tax as they calculated 1.5 hours a spring...The parts price was $319.00...Though the install was perfect, please don't remind me about getting fu(k=d by my dealer especially after knowing scalbert would do it for a case of Michelob...I coulda driven to Altanta, paid for gas and a hotel, taken scalbert to Cheetah and come home for less money...

I agree with Slimey, I also went to Park Ave Acura, my bill came out to be around $650 (comptech springs, labor, alighnment, taxes) it was a fair price, but I know that in case anything goes wrong I have the dealer to back it up!! Gsxr151, if you are getting comptech springs, go to comptechs website, look at the dealers for Minnesotta, and call them up, once again it might be a little price, but you got them (the dealership) to back you up and let the techs who fixs CL-S each day do it!! But that is just my opinon, but your quote from that shop seems tooooo high!! GOOD LUCK

Anyone have a good place to get a spring install in the Bay Area? I'll definitely check out Pleasanton, but that's not all that close to me or all that good a price it seems. For headers or even icebox I'd go to a dealer, but I'd think almost any shop could do springs without f***ing it up - or is there more to it?

I'm not sold on the springs yet (comptech most likely), but I'm definitely leaning towards it, esp. if I can find a good price on some used ones. BTW, as I understand it, used springs should be almost as good as new, is that right? Would I have to wait for them to settle, or if they were already used have they already settled?

Thanks for the help!

No Comptech dealers in Minnesota. Hell I'm the only one with a CLS anyway...haha. Just kidding.

I'll try and find someone in Minnesota that can help me with the install for a few bucks.

heheh, I have several spare bedrooms so the hotel expense could have been waived. Additionally, I do have a full bar in the basement so no need to have taken me out (plus my wife wouldn't appreciate the Cheetah thing). So gas and beer would have been it.

I was quoted 8hr's of labor ($640) for the install at the dealership I bought the car from. I laughed after I got off the phone. I'm trying another Acura dealer and another private Honda/Acura mechanic.

Hell, I'll drive down to GA for that. Wouldn't be the first time my baby's been to the Peach state.

Well, I'm from MN, and I am planning on installing my TEINs when they get here. It will be my first spring install so we'll see how it goes.

As far as shops in MN, Elite Autosport will install springs for around $300.
