Tire Pressure Sensor question...

Regarding the tire pressure monitor on the new 07's... I read it somewhere that if you change the rims or the tire then then that feature is useless? Is that true? Where exactly are the sensors located...and I just though that doesn't make sense because all tires needs to be changed eventually.

The tire pressure monitor is mount on the other side of the valve stem. The sensor will be good even you change new tires. But if you need to change rims, you need to swap the sensors over, but the only problem is you need to buy the new valve stem.Coz' valve stem is not swapable.

the other thing you need to be careful with is the shop that mounts the tires. A conventional mount will destroy the TPMS sensor...

so what's your advice if I were to change my tires or rims in the future? Specify about the TPMS sensors and let them take care of it? or take it back to Acura and let them do it.

This is a fairly new system and not all tire shops have qualified personnel to swap your tires without damaging the sensors. Your best best would be the dealer, or a tire shop who you can trust the technician. Expect to pay nearly $200 for a set of 4 sensors for new rims.

Not exactly need any new tire machine to do this.Just remember don't pry or break the bead around the valve area.Been done this many many time in the shop.Never have any problem with it.As long as the qualified person know what he doing.Beside even the shop damage they should repair for free.Good luck..!

I've got an '07 6mt wo Navi. I recently replace the stock wheels with aftermarket wheels and I've got an error show that the TPMS is malfunctioning (for obvious reasons). 2 questions; if there are aftermarket TPMS sensors I can buy for my wheels (19" TSW Volcanoes), can anyone suggest a manufacturer, or is there a way to turn the TPMS off so the error doesn't show up?

I just had two tires replaced on my 07 TSX, regular 17's (they were punctured with a knife, but that is another story). I needed tires that day so I ended up at Sears Auto, everything worked out fine. No scratches on the wheels and the Tire Pressure Monitors are working fine. The Sears manager was familiar with the sensors, many 07's vehicles have these included now.

PS It was interesting to see the flat tire reading 8 lbs while waiting in my trunk to be replaced.
