my front tires after 9k

The mechanic says that this was not an alignment issue. It looks that way to me. I had to buy two new tires. They also damaged my front rims during the swap out. They are now buying me 2 new rims. These are Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S. Anyone else with 8" rims having similar wear?

Looks like you have a camber problem- not a tire/rim fitment problem.

What have you been doing to those tires. There's no more "arrows" left on it...the rubber has just been eaten away. You've probably lost 1/8" of tread all the way around, let alone the shoulders.

That's a classic example of too much negative camber.

Hey Tireguy .. Both front and rear have camber kits. The alignment numbers after the camber kits were installed were all in the green and to factory specs. The mechanics I had do the work insist they don't know what caused this. I think they are just trying to not take the blame. I already had new rubber put on and realigned. I will watch the wear very closely.

Lung Fu ... most of my driving is highway so I have no idea what the heck happened.

The alignment equipment used is only as good as the person operating it- having performed about 1500 alignments personally and adjusting about the same amount of tires that is negative camber with perhaps a touch of toe chewing the tires up. The tires don't lie, the techs. now that's another story.

if i was to guess i would say that perhaps the wider 8 inch rim ant tire caused more wear on the insides of the tires because there is a little negitive camber on the front and rear. seems to make sence to me that a wider tire with a camber will cause more pressure on the inside of the tread than the outside of the tread

If the tires wore out like that in only 9k miles, I would think that you have way too much toe in. Many people think that negative camber would wear out the tires like in the pics above. Yes, it will but not in 9k miles. What really kills the tires is the toe setting. I don't care how much negative camber you have, but if you have anything more than 1/8" toe in (or out), your tires are going to wear out like in the pics. Also, for those who have camber problems, try rotating the tires more often. And you probably need to cross-rotate them as well. For cross-rotation, you need to actually take them to a tire shop, have them flip the tires. This will extend the life of your tires.

My first set of 18" tires on my Prelude lasted 36k miles with -2.5 degrees of cambers at all 4 corners. However, my toe settings remained zero for both front and rear all the time. I rotated my tires every 3k miles, and at every other rotation, I had the tires cross-rotated as well. BTW, the tires were 225/40/18 Falken GR-Beta (no longer available) with a treadwear of 200. These were summer-only tires.
