Mileage expectancy of OEM tires? Opinions on replacement tires?

I scanned through here pretty rapidly and didn't see anything about this. What kind of mileage can I expect out of the Michelins?

Also looking for opinions of Kumho, Yokohama and Continental tires as possible replacements when the time comes. They have these tires at Discount Tire where I've been buying tires for 6 years. These tires can be had for around $110 to $140 apiece as opposed to $202 for the Michelins. I don't have problems spending money for good tires, but hey, if you can get good rubber for less.

Feel free to recommend any other tires though I like Discount Tire and will probably select from their stock. They've been great to deal with over the years.

A word about driving conditions. I live in north Texas where it almost never snows, though it can rain alot during fall/winter/spring and during the summer it can get pretty hot. I drive mostly on the highway.

Assuming you only eat donuts, it should last for 45~50k miles. But be sure to rotate your tires every 12k miles.

If you like to drive your car with a little more panache (like me!), then you can expect mileage anywhere from 30K - 40K. However, those oem michelins are prone to sidewall bubbles (the bubble on one of my tires looked like it would pop at any moment), plus they really do not provide very good stopping distances and are at best mediocre when it comes to handling corners (when my car was new, I could make the tires squeal just by taking a turn at around 30 mph....ridiculous for $200+ a tire!!). I got rid of my tires at 30K and switched over to Fuzion ZRIs, but I was also considering the all-season Yokos. Both are vast improvements over the stock rubber, Yokos at a little more than half the price of the Michelins, and the Fuzions well below half the price of the Michelins ($93 !!).

Thanks Grayed. I don't get too whippy through the curves but 80mph is my common cruise speed ( Hey, I have to drive on Dallas International Speedway to get to work, I still get passed at 80mph. So no finger-wagging. ).

Glad to hear a vote for the Yokos, they seem to be pretty nice tires at a good price. I'll look into the Fuzions as well.

I have over 37,000 miles on my TSX and my tires look like they have about 5,000-10,000 miles left of tread. I'm thinking of going with Pirelli PZero Nero or a Bridgestone or Yokohama tire. I will need a high performance all-season because when it rains here...it really rains.

I'd second the Fuzions if your look for a fantastic deal. I had them on my last car I couldn't believe the all around performance (handling, stickiness, road noise, etc). And when you consider the price, it's a no brainer unless of course you just have to have the top of the line everything. But I'd save yourself needless fretting and money and just go ahead try them.

Unfortunately I couldn't say about the treadwear because I sold the car to get the TSX about 5000 mi after getting them. I'm tempted right now to replace the stock tires.

My original tires had about 50,000km on them last fall when I pulled them off and installed the winters. The OEM's are pretty much shot, I won't be reusing them. Most of that distance was hwy driving, but it also includes several days of autox. As a guess, I'd say a day of autox was approx equal to 5,000 km or more of normal driving.

Hi Dan! Yes, been about 2 months absence. Lots of changes here I see. I got the Return of the King EE DVD for Christmas, so I've been busy trying to finish watching it. Almost done.

Sorry for the Texan.

I'm currently shopping for summer tires myself and I've narrowed it down to either the Kumho 712's or the Yoko ES100's. I've had the Kumhos before and I was really happy with them but I'm always up for trying something new. Though something tells me that I'll end up with the Kumhos again.

Thanks for all of your help guys, I knew I could count on you. After all, ya'll (can you tell I'm from Texas) have bought TSX's ...you know some shit. It will be a while before it's time for new tires but I enjoy researching ahead of schedule.

In reference to iamhomin's post: How do you do a donut in a front-wheel drive car? Or should I ask how do you do a proper donut?

My OEMs are at just over 21k miles. Just had the tires rotated not long ago so the tires should last till I reach around the 30k mark. At that point, I'm going to swap them for a set of Ultra High Performance All-Season tires or possibly even 3 season only tires.(since I don't drive when it snows).

Good ole major, welcome back !!

I have to agree with sauceman, I've put ~ 25K miles on the OEM's and I'm thinking they'll be good to at least 50K. I havn't noticed much wear at all.
