I wouldn't focus only on the offset. The proper wheel width and tire size are also important. Wider wheels with high offset look better than low offset narrow wheels.

how much are you trying to lower? rubbing is relative to how much you're lowering

anything is possible if you start cutting stuff, 19x8.5 +38 will require major fender work however

I wouldnt really do that. I mean why do you need a+38 offset dude. If you are going to spend so much on wheels make them fit man. I would go with 19x8 all around with a +42 offset and you will be fine. +42 looks very close to flush if that is what you are looking for.

yes but he is probably A) rubbing really badly or B) running really negative camber both of which are bad on your tires.

vwong is running 19x8 +40 offset with 235-35-19s all around. The rears are fine thanks to camber. The fronts rub. Granted his cars is pretty slammed to the ground, but he's had to do stuff like slightly flare out the front fenders and get some adjustable upper arms to add more negative camber in order to get rid of the rubbing. The last time I spoke w/ him he indicated he had eliminated almost all of the rubbing, but not completely.

So, 19x8.5 +40 offset will DEFINITELY rub in the front unless you really do some custom modifications to the fenders and/or run super stiff springs and not lower the car that much.

I wouldnt think you would have a problem. I am running a 19x8 +45 with a 1.5in lip upfront and a 19x8 +47 with a 2in lip in the back. neither of them run right now at all.

he had problems rolling the front fenders, the paint cracked on the seams, so its not a simple thing to flare the fenders. i think he ended up repainting both fenders

you should try to move the fender liner inside the wheel weel in the front, it'll reduce rubbing a bit
