Installation charge?

I have Koni shocks and H&R ready to go on my 08 TSX. I was wondering how much did you people get charged for installation. I know this one shop personally but he quoted me $250 labor for 7hour of work, which is too much, even though he said $35 per hour is cheap for a labor. I just think 7 hours is too long. So how long does it usually take to get shocks and springs installed and how much is the usual labor? Thanks in advance!

Real world time it should take two hours.

If you've done it a bunch before, you can do it in one hour.

If you're a complete moron, it'll take three hours.

$150-$200 is standard in this neck of the woods.

I paid $250 for my coilovers and RSB to be installed.
That's on the higher end of the prices to be paid.

Thanks MMsTSX, I guess I will have to tell him to cut the price down. Anyone else that can chime in with their installation cost????

Installing separate shocks and springs requires more work than a complete coilover system but it doesn't take 7 hours. I would say 2 to 2.5 hrs max depending on experience and available tools/equipment. Also, fast doesn't mean good and vice versa.

If he has done this job often you can expect 2-3 hours, 3-4 hours if not.

thanks guys. and Mr.Heeltoe, I talked to the guy again and he lowered the price down to $180. I still don't know why he would take 7 hours though. He's not a type of guy that would try to rip me off with lies, I know him through my actual friend. But anyways, it's getting installed on this thursday, I will post pics when it's done!

Maybe he hasn't done suspension before and is trying to cover himself with the seven hour estimate.

Either way, if I was down there, I'd go to Heeltoe. Excelerate is 45 minutes from me and I never hesitate to make a trip up there. In fact, I'm headed there on Saturday...

I think you also emailed me:

I'm planning to lower the car with the H&R Sport springs.
1- I do the job FAST, 2 hours or so while you wait.
2- I am not paying someone else to do it and taking a cut.
3- Other places quote prices out of a book with standard pricing in it.
4- I have a lot lower overhead.
5- Most of my money comes from selling parts. Installs are side jobs for me to make a little extra.

I can go on and on. I am not going to try and prove myself to you since you are so doubtful. All you need to do is search on Acurazine.

The Acura parts specialist is in all likelihood someone at the dealer or service adviser right? I have 6-7 years dealer experience in parts and service and I can tell you those guys know a lot about replacing transmissions under warranty but not that much about modifying cars (conversely, I am short on replacing transmissions, but have a long history of working on suspensions on Honda and Acura cars). I have been in business for myself for the last 6 years and I could not have a good rep on sites like Acurazine for ruining people's cars. I have and Engineering degree. I can send you my resume if you like. TRUST ME. I am not going to screw you or screw up your car

The email wasn't from me and I wasn't doubting your skills or knowledge of your work. I was actually thinking about just taking the springs that the shop have and just take it to your place, along with progress rear sway bar. I will have to wait until UPS ships the damn springs to the shop though. If the springs don't come by tonight and get this crap installed tomorrow, I will contact you Marcus to get it installed next week.

funny.

my local Acura service manager had no such thing to say.
when he saw my car for the first time, this is what he said:

"So what suspension did you put on?"
"Tein Comfort Sports, coilovers, all around, why?"
"Looks real nice, mind if I pop off a wheel and check out the coilovers?"
"Nah, go ahead, they're nice, made in Japan *wink*"
"You will have to get a camber kit you know..."
"Yeah.."
"Oh wait, looks like you already did, is it all aligned?"
"Yeah, I did, an Ingalls rear camber kit, good quality, yeah it's aligned already."
"Very nicely done, just don't go scraping up the bottom now."
"I take all inclines and declines at sharp angles"
*both laugh.

He was obviously informed enough and saw no problem at all with the lowered car
as long as it was done right.

I could tell if I only had springs, he would have told me that was a bad idea.
That my dampers would blow soon and all.

Ha.
What a rip.
I just went a shop earlier today as I am thinking about getting some Tein Basics. I asked for a quote.

He said $550.
He said after a camber kit which "I couldn't even think about going without" and other crap, he said upwards of $800.

What a rip.
For what that would cost, I could drive all the way out to Mr. HeelToe and back and still not spend that much.
